I just received an amazing email from colleague (Germany) explaning why the wiki spreading process was a bit longer than planned in his country: the email in which I sent the ID and password for our Confluence instance was considered by users as a spam. Why? Because my name is Martin Menu.

"The reason why some (few I know of, I admit) considered it spam was due to a combination of two reasons, I believe. Most people had never heard of you before, plus the alliteration in your name which in German - again no offend, Martin - sounds like an artificial name. You know if I was dealing drugs I would call myself Peter Pill or something. If I was dealing recipes I might consider calling myself Martin Menu..."

Can you believe that? So funny and unexpected. Hey, François, Stewart, your expertise is needed here! Do we need to create a new entry on Wikipatterns for this issue?

I'm not sure if this photo has made the rounds yet, but my brother just alerted me to it. If you've ever wondered about how China could possibly be so full of poorly translated English signs, then this might be a good hint. I love it!

Yesterday Wendy made nian gao for dessert to follow a night of hotpot.  As we bit into the chewy-soft goodness, we noticed there were a disproportionate amount of edge pieces.  Turns out it's because she used this ingenious device our old roomie Teresa gave her, otherwise known as an edge brownie pan.  It's designed especially for people who are always fighting for edge pieces which tend to be chewy and crisp, rather than ooey, gooey and somewhat shapeless.  I just looked it up online and found one on amazon.  It's just brilliant.  Thanks to Wendy for the recco, and Teresa for finding it in the first place =)
