So your best friend just posted a gallery of photos on Posterous from that awesome party you went to last weekend. Posterous creates a great gallery to view these pictures on the web, but what do you always want to do when you see photos you love? You want to download them. And not the dinky 50k versions, but the original ones. How else are you going to view them in HD on your Apple TV, or get them printed at your favorite camera store?

Now Posterous includes download links to the original images sent to us, and galleries of images are turned into a zip file. One click and the whole gallery is yours. We've always wanted this to be a feature on blog and photo sites, so here you go!

A podcast is stream of audio or music that people can automatically subscribe to through something like iTunes. Whenever an update happens, all your subscribers download your new audio post and can listen to it on their computers or iPods.

Now you can use Posterous to publish your podcast using email. All you have to do is email us an audio file attachment like an MP3. We'll automatically add your MP3 file to your posterous, and in addition to the flash player in the post, we'll make sure that the file is added to your RSS feed in a way that iTunes and other podcast players can read it.

People can subscribe to your Podcast by going to iTunes, clicking Advanced > Subscribe to Podcast... and then pasting the RSS address of your posterous, which follows the format: http://[yoursite].posterous.com/rss

If you or your friends have iPods, they can subscribe to your podcast feed and always get the audio you post to your Posterous!

Edit: Thanks to Jon Hickman for pointing out that iTunes provides a way to put links directly to subscriptions, using the itpc protocol. Just provide your users a link to this URL: itpc://[yoursite].posterous.com/rss  -- it would then operate similarly to if you clicked this link (which will subscribe you to one of our best posterous users, espig-music!)

Also, if you'd like to add this itunes link to your blog more prominently, just cut and paste this code into your profile:

Subscribe to this podcast (iTunes)

If you'd like to publish your podcast publicly, you can actually list your podcast in iTunes. See the iTunes FAQ page for more information on how to do this.

Want an image gallery out of that folder of images on your desktop? Just turn the folder into a zip and email it to Posterous. If we get a zip file that contains multiple images (and only images), we'll turn the images into a gallery and provide a download link to your original zip file. Easy!

Tip: On a Mac you can turn files or folders into a zip by right clicking on them and selecting "compress"

You can now create private posts on Posterous to share with just a select group of people. Simply email private@posterous.com. We'll reply back with a secret url that you can give to the people who you want to share that post with. You can also make a post private on the post editing screen.

This post won't show up on your public Posterous site, or in your RSS feed. And if you have Autopost set up, private posts will NOT be autoposted to your other sites.

As always, send feedback and questions to help@posterous.com.

You've asked for it and we've built it. Posterous now provides daily and weekly digest emails of your favorites, comments, and subscription emails.

In the days and weeks ahead we'll continue to refine the way we get in touch with you. Sneak peek: we'll also be rolling out outbound email subscriptions soon. You won't have to come back to My Subscriptions on the site to read your subscriptions -- we'll come to you.

If you're already a posterous user, click here to set up your notification settings now.

We're really excited to be releasing one of our most requested features: tagging! You can now categorize the posts on your site by adding tags either through email, or on the post's page itself.

Add tags simply in the subject of your email using the syntax ((tag: apple, gadgets)). Tagging doesn't have to be a tedious task you do after creating a post; simply tag your posts as you create them right in the message.

Not only can you see all posts on a site with a given tag, but you can view all posts throughout Posterous with a tag. It's a great way to see what people are saying about any given topic. Enjoy!

Ever want to customize what your Twitter message says when you post from posterous? What about what gets shown on your blog when you post? Now you can. Go to your Autopost Manager and edit settings for your services. You'll see this power-user option when you click Advanced Settings.

Posterous is all about helping you publish everything online, everywhere. Autopost just got more powerful. Got questions, issues, or suggestions? Fire them our way at help@posterous.com.

You can now create up to three Posterous sites under a single account. Simply go to your main account page and click "Create a new Posterous."

To post to a particular site, just email post@sitename.posterous.com and it will go to the right place. Create a personal site for yourself, a family site for all your relatives, and a third site for your soccer team.

Each site can now have multiple contributers. You can add your friends or family’s email addresses to any Posterous site you control, and they can then email stuff in too. All they have to do is email post@sitename.posterous.com. They don't even need to register.

See the announcement on TechCrunch.

Check out this group blog Garry made so all his friends can share funny stuff we've found online (using our brand new group blogging feature).

Last month we rolled out group sites, the easiest way to have multiple contributors on a single blog. Just add contributors by email address, no accounts needed.

Today we take that a step further by allowing you to create public blogs that *anyone* can post to by email. Just turn on the "post by moderation" option in your site settings, then anyone can email post@sitename.posterous.com. This is a great way to create a group site or public forum.

Some examples:
Share recipes and cooking tips at Posterous Recipes by emailing post@recipes.posterous.com
Car talk? Apple talk? Email post@cars.posterous.com or post@apple.posterous.com

Create your own public Posterous site now!

Status updates
We've added the ability to choose between updating your minifeed (which is preferable if you like to expand them to short stories or already have the Twitter app installed) or changing your facebook status (which updates your status with an is.gd short link to your new posterous post.)

Facebook Photo posting options
You can now also control how many photos in a post it takes to create a new album in your Facebook Photos. If you send fewer than that number (we default to 5), we just drop it into the Posterous Photos album, but if you post more than that, you'll get an album with the same name as the post for easy organization.

You can see the new settings on facebook right now by clicking here and selecting "Photo and Blog Autopost Options." If you haven't setup autopost to Facebook yet, this is a great time to start.

Invite your friends
Finally, if you're already autoposting to Facebook, we just added a way for you to invite your Facebook friends to read your posterous and get one of their own. Invite your friends now.
