I had a very optimistic session on creativity this afternoon where I
had the chance to show http://goanimate.com/ to languages teachers and heads
of departments. And they were indeed all very enthusiastic about using
new technology with our students, which made me realized that in fact
lots of teachers are eager to move forward! During the session, we
were all aware we are falling behind with our students and we really
need to change the way we teach. One head of department said she made
her students used their mobile phones to record their speaking
conversation in preparation for the exams. Because students were able to use their
own mobile phones, they spent 45 minutes non-stop practicing! Another
teacher was saying that she had stopped fighting with her own children
to make them read books because they were reading anyway (a lot!) on
the Internet.
I guess we just need to admit that our students have changed and this
video (by Michael Wesh http://www.ksu.edu/sasw/anthro/wesch.htm) is I think a good summary of what we are
experiencing in the classroom. Let's just be opened and changed
ourselves as teachers as well...
"Combining solar and wind power generation, the turbine's wind vanes
are covered with solar cells that are themselves coated with a
patented Teflon-like fluoropolymer. That means they can capture
sunlight from any angle. Unlike the typical propeller windmill design,
the Solarwind is virtually silent and poses no threat to birds or
drunk partiers. ...
