"Usefulness Creates Connections"
clever shortcut to loyalty :) but if user experience start to mix up with the "great" marketing theory we might soon approach new chaos understanding what is good user experience approach.
But if budgets from marketing and communication can be shifted to utility, UX and UI, this very last theory can be very welcome, to start to consider the drastic change that most of big corporations need to experience as soon as possible.
From my point of view, I would keep away marketing from utility terminologies or it will be an early predictable divorce.
Nevertheless an interesting eye catching stuff: http://odopod.com/blog/utility-marketing-usefulness-creates-connections/

My friend, Al, is responsible for the Remote app [iTunes link] on the iPhone. It's a great tool that allows you to control the music on your Mac or Apple TV using your iPhone.

The latest version added some really great features that aren't advertised very well. First of all, you can control your Apple TV using your iPhone using swipes and gestures. It's pretty neat, but the Apple TV hasn't gained enough traction for this feature to get noticed.

But one feature that deserves a lot of attention is iTunes DJ.

  • Lets say you are having a party. Just select a song in iTunes and choose "iTunes DJ". This will create a new playlist around that song automatically
  • Anyone at your party with an iPhone can launch Remote, connect to your iTunes, and see what's being played
  • Your friends can click "Request song" to browse *your* music selection and add songs to the playlist
  • They can also vote on songs in the list. The song with the most vote gets played next

Al is a DJ on the side and has always been interested in bringing a better DJ experience to bars and clubs.

This is the future of the juke box. The democratization of music wherever you are.

This 2 hour talk is basically the essential primer/guide to product management. I have never seen a single deck/resource be nearly as comprehensive. This is so incredibly essential, I think anyone who is even remotely connected to building products should sit down and at least flip through the slides, if not watch the whole thing.

It took me 10 years of working on product of all kinds (web, desktop, mobile, consumer, enterprise) in all kinds of roles (engineer, designer, PM) to come to understand the concepts explained in this deck in 2 hours.

This is my favorite slide out of this whole thing. There's a lot more to designing products than the visual aspect. There's much more, and it's all connected.

How the internet sees you?
a follow up of the NYTimes article about "Mining the internet for feelings, not facts" from Aug 24th
"Datamining Art" :)

The web app is very nicely processing your online tracks, but you will find some weird segment parts like agression, politics.

Quite impressive to be designed online like a vulgar stripe of a colourful DNA. How can you "score" on one of your each favorite topics of your past and actual communication behaviors online. Are you starting to feel naked?

Porkkalan anti oli hieman nahkea, kuten todettua. Tuttuja kuvia kurssilta, eli ei uutta matskua.

Is this realistic? I guess it would largely depend on where you work.
