Backstage in Moscow. Richard Branson is speaking before me. He asks me if I ever fly Virgin; I admit that I never have. He asks me to try it. I say to him: “If Richard Branson asks me, I guess I have to.” He then gets on his knees and starts polishing my shoes with his jacket in order to convince me. Can it get any better than this?
Yet again I've added another social media site to my portfolio: Posterous. I also maintain Facebook, LinkedIN, Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, FriendFeed, Blogger, and my websites: danielhoang.com, danielhoang.net, and danielhoang.org. Then there's a list of other sites that I've signed up and have totally forgotten about.
Penelope Trunk, founder of the Brazen Careerist network, wrote a piece a while back about unmashing the social sites. As I've opened and attempted to maintain these sites, I've built a brand around myself. However, as these posts are simply replicated among different networks, what value does it provide? As a reader, if there are any, they all appear the same. As a writer, it's too much work and too much time needed to maintain all these sites. Perhaps the method would be to reduce the sites, use mobile posting - such as posterous and iPhone to update - to better manage the portfolio.
