Dr. Hafied Gany is currently Vice President, International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage, ICID.

Born in Watan Soppeng, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, on November 10, 1944. He started his professional career in the Water Resources Development and Management as a construction supervisor of water resources projects after completing his civil engineering undergraduate in Bandung in 1967. From 1968 to 1981, Dr. Gany had a series of experiences working in the water resources design, construction, Operation & Maintenance and maanagement of water resources infrastructures, as well as field research and experimental activities on the same disciplines and their related subjects.

In 1979, he obtained M.Sc. degree from the University of Southampton, U.K. He was assigned as the project manager of the Construction Guidance Service Center - CGSC - Project, at the same time as chief of the Research Station for Hydraulic Structures of the Ministry of Public Works in Bekasi, West Java Province from 1985 to 1989.

In 1982, he obtained a Ph.D. at the Columbia Pacific University, California - USA, majoring Irrigation Development. In 1993 he obtained an interdisciplinary Ph.D. majoring Engineering, Economics, Sociology, and Demography at the University of Manitoba, Canada, with commendation. Graduated with commendation from the Indonecian Supreme Civil Servant’s College (SPATI-II), National Institute of Civil Administration (LAN) 1996-97.

Dr. Gany has published more than 100 professional papers, beside his experiences to attend international seminars, conferences and congresses in more than 20 countries over five continents.
