In yesterday's video I showed y'all my little postcards that I made for my upcoming workshop. What I haven't figured out how to do is how to get the original files from Overnight Prints so that I can have a copy of the artwork. What I did today is that I copied what I had done and redesigned it using Pages from the iWork09 suite.

Pages is one of my FAVORITE mac applications. At first I wasn't sure how to use it and I relied on the templates a lot, and even then I didn't quite know what I was doing, but the more that I used it, the more freedom I felt! So, this is my little 'poster' of my workshop! I'm not going to be printing this out and posting it anywhere, I was mainly going to use this as online promotion. By the way, doing this little design took me less than an hour to do :) I actually had it done by the time Hunter woke up from her nap!

What I would REALLY love to do is to export the PDF of this flyer into an HTML file and then use it as a template for an email! (I've been messing around with Mail Chimp) Now that would be SWEEET! If anyone knows how to do this without purchasing some expensive software, I would LOVE to hear your advice :)

Today I've been listening to Dial A Stranger's latest podcast.  It features strangers Zarla a vintage clothes seller and Sandy a yoga teacher.

Dial A Stranger is a radio programme which takes questions from listeners and then calls up strangers to ask these questions.  In this particular episode the questions asked are: 'where do you find peace?' and 'when did you realise things would be different?'.  Through personal, emotional and insightful stories the questions are answered.

For the format, the 20-30 minute podcast was an appropriate length and pace.  The audio quality is good, and it's an enjoyable listen, especially if you like programmes such as This American Life.

Mat under my arm, I walk into the locker room.  I see a tall woman with a mat and block in her arms as well. I ask, “How is this class?”  She smiled, “It’s great. I’ve only been 3 times but I really like it.”  “Great!” I reply.   I head to the mirrored room and set up my mat.  I place my water bottle down and get ready to find out the limits of my body.

Welcome to Spencer’s Power Yoga class. It’s packed.  There are three men in the room.. or was that two?  By the end of the class, these men kicked most of our booties.  Wow.  They are FLEXIBLE.  And well, their body shape was right out of Men’s Health… Bucka Wowza!  Nice eye candy. Thanks guys!

Before class even begins, “THE COMMITTEE” begins a conversation in my head.  This committee consists of you know who…. the ego and the higher self.   We all have The Committee-- the difference between the two is clear with this basic explanation: The Ego is the naysayer, and loves the phrases like “I can’t,” “No way,” “ I’m fat,”  “She’s prettier than you,”…   The higher self is full of love, gratefulness, appreciation and she spends time saying things like, “Her body is great- I’ll be like that one day,” “I love my hair today,” “I’m beautiful,” “I can do yoga and improve over time.”

Luckily, my higher self won the debate.  My higher self spoke up: Today, I have a great set of calves.  I smile.  It’s because I went to spin classes all last week.  I feel good.  The girl next to me has the most amazing body shape.  I smile. She worked hard to look like that—good for her.   Look at the dedication of everyone that showed up to class. Wow. I’m one of them, too.  I smile.  I’m  here.  Something big is going to happen today.

And you know what? It did.

Spencer is a woman, by the way.  I’ve been to a lot of Yoga classes.  She made me smile with her teaching style, made me laugh, and worked me hard.  A beautiful woman in touch with her higher self.    I love Downward Dog. My body is not so fond of it, yet.  I love Warrior Pose.  I love Triangle.  I love the heat running through my body as it warms up, becomes more flexible as the clock ticks on.   An hour flies by.  I feel amazing. Refreshed.  I did it. Another day of exercise.  And it really didn’t feel like a chore, just rejuvenating.  That’s big.

Spencer is opening up her own Yoga studio soon. Right now, she is giving classes out of her home.   But soon, she’ll have her first studio ever.  We chatted after class.  She needs a website.  We exchanged information.  I’m happy.  I connected with someone today. She gave me peace with Yoga and I hope to give her a fabulous website or some marketing help.

Visit Spencer’s current website and watch her transform.  Welcome to her journey.

What is your journey today?  Maybe it’s allowing your higher self to speak LOUDLY.  Or maybe it’s treating yourself to a Diet Coke instead of water?

Smile!!!

The Balinese understand the importance of balance & expressions are everywhere in attitude, daily offerings, food & delight.
Often, life imitates art & reading "Eat Pray Love" was all the inspiration I needed to plan a holiday.
And, just as often, life is so much sweeter than art or a chapter in a book...Bali is no exception.
Balinese believe balance in life is the key to happiness & now I believe it, too!

Peaceful coastal village of Candidnasa was tranquil place & ideal location for some off shore scuba but I found inland Ubud & overlooking rice paddies to be most mystical place

Janet DeNeffe's cooking school at Honey Moon Guest House-Ubud was amazing from the food to the stories of life in Bali.
Janet's book "Fragrant Rice" http://ow.ly/BzPs  is an engaging love story of meeting a Balinese man & living a life in Bali including opening of 2 wonderful restaurants, Casa Luna & Indo (Indo has incredible bucolic views of rice paddies & food is amazing - jump on scooter & 5 minutes from central Ubud).
www.casalunabali.com
Bali Spirit www.balispirit.com  was a perfect place for yoga practice & the cafe was ideal for meeting yogis and locals.  Lovely waitress invited me to her brother's wedding & I joyously attended.

Bali was mystical & the spirit will always be with me.

Did I tell y'all that I got a new camera? Well, review is coming :D

Anyway,

This was my first attempt at creating a bit of video while I was teaching class. I obviously did NOT do a very good job at setting the camera. I did it crazy fast and didn't mess with it at all during class, hence my headless self ;) My motto when dealing with gear while teaching is that if it doesn't work swaha! I'm not going to fiddle with anything while teaching because...I'm teaching yoga for goodness sake!

I hope to supplement episodes of Elsie's Yoga Class: Live and Unplugged Podcast with bits of video of the classes that I record audio for, here and there...sometimes...perhaps....if it doesn't intrude too much with the flow of things :)

So, this was a bit of today's class over at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association. It was fun.

If you don't know about my yoga podcast, you can check out www.elsiesyogakula.com and/or you can subscribe in iTunes, just search for Elsie's Yoga Class. Oh, and did y'all know I have an iPhone app? Only $3.99 over 70+ audio classes in your pocket :)

One of the girls that I admire in San Diego, the wonderful yoga
instructor Rachel, is leaving us for greener (way greener) pastures in
Oregon.

In honor of her move, I wanted to post some great shots we took at
Balboa Park. Rachel is a kind and gentle soul. She has great
charisma and is super photogenic.

Check out those boots, people!

You will be missed, Rachel.

Besos and Paz!

Darana says...

¡Mucha suerte! ¡Y atención!
