The web is sort of magical but there’s a lot of tangible stuff that makes it fly around.

I thought this was interesting if a little US focused:

Stay tuned.

Egy kis móka a végére tegnapról:

Ezen a képen ma többször is hangosan felnevettem, a tegnapi DVSC-Liverpool meccs egyik jelenete van megmagyarázva. Kabaré, komolyan mondom. KA-BA-RÉ.

Dear Simon,

Disregarding the fact that you have still not paid me for work I completed earlier this year despite several assertions that you would do so, I would be delighted to spend my free time creating logos and pie charts for you based on further vague promises of future possible payment. Please find attached pie chart as requested and let me know of any changes required.

Regards, David.

Xtranormal is a real time movie making site featuring drag and drop animations, automatic lip synching and international voices. It features a very simple interface, you choose your characters and their world, and then start typing their dialog. It's free and perfect for putting together something quick and ridiculous. You type something, and they turn it into a movie.

Check out this 'Wedding Photographer' video done by 'chapo', it is damn hillarious!

For all Gmail users, Offline Gmail now supports attachments sending whether you are online or offline. You’ll be able to attach all types of files except inline images, which are images in the body of the email. When you have Offline Gmail enabled, Google says that mail now goes through the outbox when you’re online or offline, allowing Gmail to capture all attachments regardless of internet connections.

If you haven't tried Offline Gmail, visit Gmail Labs tab Gmail Labs on the top right corner of your screen follow these instructions to get started:

  1. Select Enable next to Offline Gmail.
  2. Click Save Changes.
  3. After your browser reloads, you'll see a new "Offline" link in the upper righthand corner of the Gmail page, next to your username. Click this link to start the offline set up process and download Gears if you don't already have it.

If you are not using Gmail, whatcha waiting for? Go grab one now!

So there are two desktop/web services I'm curious about now that I have a PC that can handle them. TweetDeck and Cliqset. I don't use Facebook, but would love to have a place where my full twitter stream (not just the friends who use the the 3rd party service), RSS feeds, FriendFeed stuff, etc. can all be piled into one screen.  From their websites I can't figure out if either of them do that or would be a waste of my time to download. So:

1) Does anyone out there use them? What is your experience?

2) Does anyone have a suggestion for a better option?

Feel free to leave a comment, send an e-mail, leave me a VM via Google Voice (see widget below)

I also have a handful of Google Wave Invites to share!

...trying to think of something to do as a side project (for CV enhancement/future small business possibilities)  which encompasses:

Web technology
UI design
Cheminformatics or bioinformatics

and has a unique selling point or solves a unique problem. In spare moments I have tried to jot down ideas, then ruling them out with searching - quite a few had already been done.

And then it hit me - chemical drawing.

For 2 and a half years this was the bane of my life when I worked at Evotec. We used a Java applet based system for web drawing which, while useful and feature-rich, was a pain in the hole for integrating seamlessly into web apps, users needed Java installed for WebStart, the configuration was a real bitch. There were desktop apps as well, but again these were Java based and had limitations.

What doesn't exist anywhere, to my knowledge, is a platform independent/agnostic, CSS based drawing tool which can also handle input files or SMILES strings and display them. With the CSS and javascript frameworks about, surely this would be achievable with a bit of work?

So basically, does anyone know of a tool/site like this where any user with just a decent web browser (think ChromeOS/Linux here) can rock up and just draw away? Or have I hit on something here?
