Game 4: Greenlaw/Newman def. Dykstra/Arbel 28-23
Game 5: Dykstra/Arbel def. Iqbal/Stalder 29-27

3-2 on the day isn't bad. It didn't hurt to have one of the best players there on my side of the net.

My Helen Time: 16:06

After that, straight to a surf session - see 'Shark Week'.

And finally, some volleyball at 25th Street. I played awful, but I refuse to believe it was because I was tired. I did twist my ankle pretty good while spiking in warm-ups. Excuses are awesome.

These are some of my favorite photos of my wife's high school varsity team. Hey, I may as well make myself useful while I'm haunting the gym.

Both of my daughters are playing college volleyball. This is a shot of Madison's team, she is a freshman at College of Idaho. They are a nationally-ranked team (currently #8). I take a lot of shots at their games, this is one of my favorites.

I played some volleyball with the 25th St. crew. I think I'm really learning a lot from those guys. They have so much experience and that's what I need. I went 2-1 on the day, not bad.

Match 1: John/Kevin def. Arbel/Matt 21-17, 10-21, 15-10
Match 2: John/Arbel def. Matt/Kevin 16-21, 21-18, 15-11
Match 3: Kevin/Arbel def. John/Matt 28-21 (single game because of time)

After the volleyball, I played some Smashball (aka matkot) with my dad. It was good shit. Just like the old days in Israel.

For the last 5 years I have watched one or both of my daughters play high school varsity volleyball in the fall. With my second daughter off to college, this is the first season without either of them in the gym. My wife still coaches the varsity team, and I have attended some of the matches but it feels weird. The same place, the same sounds of the game, but now a little odd and foreign. I feel like a ghost, haunting the gym, who doesn't realize it's time to move on and go towards the light.

I am taking some action photos of the team so that they will have a cool slide show at the end of the season. And yes I like to put together the slide show, help with video and senior night posters and whatnot. But it's a bit like driving to work or brushing my teeth. I'm doing it out of habit, without really thinking too much about it. Maybe it's because if I just stay home instead, it will really sink in that my girls are grown up and gone. And I'm not quite ready for that.
