For a long time now, I've been thinking about adding a gallery to the blog that consists of the mind maps created for this blog and some others. It seems wrong in a way to run a mind mapping blog such as this and not have a gallery that readers can browse through instead of trying to search through old posts.

Well no more! I'm proud to announce that the MindMapSwitch Gallery is now open!

Over the next few weeks I'm going to be posting more mind maps here that perhaps don't warrant a full blog post. I might also include mind maps that have been quickly sketched for an idea and also screenshots of some software mind maps.

You’re cranking out some solid blog posts for your company. And you’ve just convinced the boss to let you set up a Twitter account and a Facebook fan page, too. But the boss is worried it’ll take up too much time, and she asks: “Can you automatically update Twitter and Facebook with our new blog posts?” Yes, you can. Here’s how to do it reliably and for free.

This method will allow you to link out of Facebook’s walled garden and get maximum traffic for your publishing efforts.

So, a - um - friend recently signed up for the Twitter. He claims that it's to receive better and more frequent updates about San Francisco goings-ons. But we all know the real reasons: one and two. Anyhoo, rather than sit and get all type-A on his ass (figuratively) and log in as him and follow folks, I figured I'd make a list of (hopefully) wonderful suggestions for reliable, informative, fun news and event San Francisco updates.

The shortlist...

@ActionNewsSF (by far the best)@511SFBay, @sfappeal@StreetsblogSF, @SFist, @Emergency_In_SF, and @CAquake

And for my Mission District neighbors out there: @MLNow, @94110now

There are obviously tons of local twitter accounts (like the local news outlets) but I find that often they report on things that as a snobby, native San Franciscan, are desperately unimportant to me: like things that happen in zip codes not starting with "941". Or they just post too damn much.

I would love any additional suggestions!

My SF Updates twitter list

UPDATE: He also said that he heard there was free porn. That's a whole other list altogether.

This past week I took some vacation time and traveled to Glendive, MT to see Allison's family for Thanksgiving. The last time I had a Thanksgiving 'break' was during college so it was nice to get a few days off. We left early Wednesday morning and traveled to Billings to pick up Allison's uncle Troy from the airport. He flew in from Elko to hitch a ride with us to Glendive. We spent Wednesday - Friday at the grandparents place and on Saturday traveled into Glen Ullin, ND to see some extended-extended family. If I'm correct it's Allison's great-uncle and a few of his brothers and sisters. Basically every other farm adjacent to his in North Dakota. On the way back we stopped in Dickinson to catch up with a friend who's teaching there at the university. That took care of Saturday and Sunday we headed home. So 1,248 miles later I'm back home continuing to recover from more than one Thanksgiving dinner and in-laws who must think my lovely wife starves me to death. Anywho, that will take care of any traveling we do for the rest of the year. Guess it's time to get the Clark Griswold on, Happy Holidays!

In this week after Thanksgiving:

May you feel, in your return to work, a quiet pleasure, deeper peace, a satisfaction in your actions, a life made richer by reflection, by rest, thanksgiving, reconnection... to all that matters most to you.

Namaste.

Thanksgiving week is a big week for everyone and Aspire Jobs is no different.  We’ve been making some huge strides lately and have some big announcements coming out.  From upgrades to new partnerships and marketing, we’ve been working real hard to bring you the best online job site possible.  Of course, we still offer everything at a fraction of the cost of the big sites… and might have an announcement coming soon about the cost of posting a job with us too.

So stay tuned and we’ll let you know everything Aspire has been up to lately.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

Thank you!

One of the great things about working at Google is that we get to take advantage of an enormous amount of computing power to do some really cool things. One idea we tried out was to let webmasters know about their potentially hackable websites. The initial effort was successful enough that we thought we would take it one step further by expanding our efforts to cover other types of web applications—for example, more content management systems (CMSs), forum/bulletin-board applications, stat-trackers, and so on.

This time, however, our goal is not just to isolate vulnerable or hackable software packages, but to also notify webmasters about newer versions of the software packages or plugins they're running on their website. For example, there might be a Drupal module or Joomla extension update available but some folks might not have upgraded. There are a few reasons a webmaster might not upgrade to the newer version and one of the reasons could be that they just don't know a new version exists. This is where we think we can help. We hope to let webmasters know about new versions of their software by sending them a message via Webmaster Tools. This way they can make an informed decision about whether or not they would like to upgrade.

This will be a great feature: If you have many websites, you can't check them frequently if there are patches for all the plugins or modules.

Our friend Laura works in the L&D department where Nicole's going to deliver. Tonight things were slow there at the hospital, so she invited us over for this little treat. Seriously awesome, I'm telling you. Ridiculously incredible.

Later, after Nicole and I got home, we watched last night's episode of Glee. The caliber of this episode was exquisite—spot-on humor followed by fervent candor. Several moments were so gut-wrenchingly emotional, I almost got choked up. But none were more moving than this pair of scenes:

So, when the episode ended, we were immediately compelled to download this cover. As we watched it I wanted to do the same thing for our child.

Honestly, I've been wanting to plan and create something musical to celebrate this child. Eef Barzelay (of Clem Snide) did this with "Find Love," and Jonathan Coulton did this with "You Ruined Everything." I just haven't found that small bit of inspiration to start it yet.

Any tips?
