Es gan neēsmu redzējis (un kamēr nebūs bezmaksas pieejams neredzēšu) jaunos Bellas piedzīvojumos ar vampīrskaistuļpuiku, bet jau pirmo reizi redzot garo treileri iekš MTV Video Music Awards man salikās ka nebūs labi, ka tā vampīrpadarīšana ir pārcelta uz kautkādiem karaļnamiem un vampīru pavēlniekiem. Un, kad (šodien: LV pirmizrādes dienā) Dita Rietuma twitterī pateica negatīvu atsauksmi par New Moon, manām domām parādijās profesionāļa morāls atbalsts.

Tajā pašā momentā (nezin' kāpēc) man radās asociācija ar filmām - pirmo: Pitch Black & otro: The Chronicles of Riddick; tālāk padomājot nāk atmiņā Matrix un Matrikz Revolūcija un Matrikz Pārlādes daļas & gan jau ka ir vēl kāds piemērs.

Kāpēc tieši šīs filmas? Tāpēc,ka pirmās daļas šīm filmām, man šķiet bija labas filmas ar savu domu, izpildījumu... radīja kā es to saucu: filmai garšu & attiecīgi - pēcgaršu.

Love this Twilight quote... RT @TheNaughtyFan: "And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty." - Edward Cullen #twilight

The uglier the vampire, the better the ranking for the film. Even the generally populist imdb.com can't seem to find any love for the "pretty" vamps of Twilight. Bring back Nosferatu and Barlow; they scared the shit out of me. Hell, even Blacula beat Twilight - but, as I'm sure Cuba Gooding Jr. will say in a sure-to-be-made Disney vampire dog family flick: "Show me the MONEY!" I think Twilight vamps are Vulcan; they bleed green.

Nosferatu (1922) imdb - 8.1

Salem's Lot (1979) imdb - 6.5

Blacula (1972) imdb - 5.4

Twilight: New Moon (2009) imdb - 4.5

Herewith, a terrific literary analysis of the Twilight/New Moon phenomenon by Matthew "Oatmeal" Inman, who is clearly a man's man:

"A friend bought [Twilight] for me, and I took it with me to read on a long flight from Seattle to Houston. …I actually managed to power through around 400 pages, until I gave up and started reading Sky Mall."

So, for those of you (i.e., me) who thought Team Edward was Robert Pattinson's NASCAR pit crew or something, you may want to read the whole piece. (Caution: language)

On Friday, November 20, 2009, The Twilight Saga: New Moon set domestic (USA and Canada) box office records as the biggest midnight screening and opening day in history, grossing an estimated $72.7 million in its first day.

This is how mNew Moon experience went down:

Monday 11/16:

swing by Fandango.com and pick up two tickets to New Moon in anticipation of a sold out show.

[Background] My girlfriend, Bella Jess, is a vampire big fan of Twilight--she loves Stephenie Meyer and polished off all four major arteries books in a heart beat.

I decide that the second installment of Twilight aka Vegetarian Vampires is entitled to the "royal treatment." The decision's easy. I opt to go with the all-new XD Extreme Digital Cinema digital auditorium at Cinemark West Plano, formerly known as "Tinseltown" (Plano, TX).

Tuesday 11/17:

I wake up. [Ouch!] My teeth are strangely sensitive. I temporarily discontinue the consumption of all cold/hot foods and beverages. I throw on my "walk-it-off" attitude. My car has turned into a 2010 Volvo XC60 overnight. Great. I've always wanted to give Volvo's City Safety System a run for its' money.

Wednesday 11/18:

My skin is pale and ice cold. My eyes are no longer blue. I feel unusually strong. I stop an oncoming car completely with one hand and save the life of a 60-year old woman. Our eyes meet. We have a "moment." She offers me her Social Security pension as gratitude. I tell her it's my job to protect her. My teeth are killing me. I take the money.

Thursday 11/19:

I feel like Tom Hanks in Cast Away. I'm a Christian. I turn to God for help. This isn't His battle to fight. He says He's kept my teeth sparkling clean and cavity-free for 22 years. He's sitting this one out. I'm screwed. Desperation kicks in. I "cry wolf." Not even Sensodyne can help me now. My teeth really #$@%#%& hurt.

Friday 11/20:

The "transformation" is complete. I'm a vampire. I have razor sharp teeth. My dentist is never going to believe this. Thanks a lot "Fangdango."

Jess and I try to locate a pair of empty seats at what appears to be a Taylor Swift concert. The curtains open. The crowd goes wild. "It takes many calls to make a movie, and only one to run it." My iPhone and I enter "silent" mode. The 3 million girls in the theatre do not. I feel like a mute watching An American Werewolf in Paris.

I watch as mothers cling to their young in an attempt to restrain them from lunging at the XD screen at every glimpse of a vampire and/or werewolf. I doze off. I regain conciousness just in time to see Kristen Stewart catch a non-stop flight to Italy on a Virigin America vessel. Interesting--Virgin America doesn't offer flights from Seattle to Italy. She's riding in a yellow Porsche. Vampires sure know how to drive. Dakota Fanning's there. She did her makeup without a mirror. I'm worried. Who's watching Wilbur? The curtains close. The crowd goes wild (again). I'm utterly confused. I ask Jess what she thought. She liked it. Where was I?

If this historical movie release taught me anything, it's that the emotional, high-pitch shrieks of 13-year old girls are significantly more detrimental to your health than even the most agonizing discomfort inflicted by the fangs of a pale-as-a-ghost, blood-sucking, 21st-century vampire.

As far as rating goes, I'll give it a half moon.

What did you think of The Twilight Saga: New Moon? Leave a comment!

Thanks!

Magnus

A few weeks ago I had the miserable experience of reading Twilight. A friend bought it for me and I took it with me to read on a long flight from Seattle to Houston. I knew it was going to be crappy, but I thought it would be a guilty pleasure kind of crappy - where you know it's bad but you still get enjoyment out of it. I actually managed to power through around 400 pages until I gave up and started reading Sky Mall. I've been seeing Twilight everywhere lately, especially with Vampire Teens II New Moon's release, so I thought I'd break down why chicks go apeshit for it.

Continue reading this great little Twilight bagging session this time done by The Oatmeal.

In an attempt to claw back some of the audience that has been rapidly falling over the last year MySpace has shifted its focus to become more of an entertainment portal.

This sets the platform apart from competitors Facebook and Twitter which focus on members updating each other with short sound bites of information. MySpace will now focus more on what people are into as opposed to what they are doing (a shift anyway from being focused solely on user generated content).

Advertising on the site is also to become more entertaining – on the weekend just gone a giant wolf took over the homepage to further add to the hype and anticipation of the Twilight- New Moon movie.

Movie advertisers frequent the MySpace homepage but this is the first time a takeover of this extreme has occurred on the site. With some calling it a “highly intrusive” placement it will be interesting to see what the My Spacers think of it...no doubt it further fuelled the excitement of Twilight fans who have already been able to watch the movie premiers red carpet event on the site, follow the stars who regularly update their statuses and sample the movies soundtracks.

I think this type of interactive entertainment lead advertising and content is a good move on MySpace’s part. There isn’t any room left in the Facebook/ Twitter world so this gives them a point of differentiation and importantly provides the audience with an experience.

"The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good." That's what Stephen King told a reporter in February 2009. Funny that I never heard of this before. It's hilarious because it's so honest.

Now, I am not a huge Harry Potter fan. I sort of just go with the flow: I read the books when they came out, I watched the films when they got shown. I did like them a lot, the books were a lot of fun. But as for being a passionate Rowling/Potter fan, I really am not.

Stephenie Meyer's books evoke more passion in me: I am a huge un-fan of the Twilight books. I read the first book and the second book (I wanted to see what the overhype was about). Midway through the third book, I just had to stop. It was just bad...stuff so badly written, story so lame, I could not make myself continue. It was an utter, repetitive bore.

And it turns out that Stephen King shares the same sentiments as mine. The books are probably the most overrated things in man's history. Wake up, fanboys and fangirls - your emperor is not wearing any clothes.

Twilight sucks. (I had to spell it out, in case some fans don't get the 'emperor' reference because of excessive exposure to Stephenie Meyer's writing.)

To other un-fans: if you enjoy nodding in agreement or laughing at or making fun of or simply hating Twilight, check this article out.
