Over 1,000 tinyCylon kits sold!
Just over a year ago I really believed that no one would be interested in a DIY electronics kit as simple as my tinyCylon. It seems I was wrong. (Note to self: Check everything else.)
I'd like to thank Steve Rainwater for suggesting that I take my little "LED Scanners" to the 2008 Maker Faire in Austin TX. He hypothesized that I "might sell some" there. I sold every one I took with me. Thanks, Steve! At the Faire, I met Marc de Vinck, author and future overseer of the Maker Shed. He liked my little LED Scanners and asked about a kit. I told him that it was just a chip and five LEDs... who would be interested in that? He patiently explained to me that some people, perhaps newcomers to the hobby, might appreciate a simple kit that was fun to build as well as fun to play with once built. Marc was not the only one at the Faire to suggest turning the little circuit into a kit. After the Faire, Marc and I exchanged some email resulting in the Maker Shed buying a boatload of tinyCylon kits. Thanks, Marc! Several other retailers also liked the kits and very positive reviews started to come in. Overall it's been a really great adventure learning how to make things for other people to make. I had to battle my tendency to want to do everything myself and let a few others in on the fun. I'm glad I did. Thanks again to everyone that has made the tinyCylon project so successful!
