This is late.

Yesterday's challenge to Me was the one thing I have had problems with since I could remember: sports. I'm just not a sports person. I actually spent most of my teenage years not knowing what to do with my body (jump? dance? climb? yoga? noooooo waaaaay)

It wasn't until I suffered from mild insanity and signed up to join the school's competitive climbing club that my body became one with ... whatever else I'm made of.

fail

So. Yesterday's thing-I've-never-done-before was to run 5 km on the treadmill at my gym.

You know when you psych yourself up and tell yourself 5 is only a number and the only thing between you and 5 are wimpy numbers like 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Don't underestimate 2.

I became suicidal at 2.1km and hoisted my white flag at 2.5km.

Loser.

This is one thing I have to try again. Come on, it's 5km. Peanuts!

I had a feeling something was up a couple of months ago when Three announced their Twitter by SMS feature. They pushed it hard and even collaborating with @infoll, and @lewatmana to co-promote their services during the Idul Fitri homecoming period. However there was no peep from Mashable or even on Twitter's own blog. Today, Twitter's Director of Mobile Products and Partnerships Kevin Thau announced that they're partnering with Axis (@axisgsm) to provide Twitter's SMS services in Indonesia.

This pretty much confirms that Three's Twitter service was not official. If you send via SMS, normally it would show up as a tweet sent via txt but with Three, it's via TwitPakeTri. Bottom line, does it matter if it's official? Not really, it just means that now there are two providers that let you use Twitter via SMS.

If you've been meaning to try Twitter as it was meant to be used, Twitter is now available again via SMS in Indonesia. It's certainly not something that hardcore Twitter users would use but if you just want to get your feet wet in the twitter stream, this could be a good place to start.

I've used Twitter via SMS before back in 2007 before they yanked the service globally because it was getting way too expensive for them to deal with. The experience was certainly different and it encourages you to be much less conversational. While it's practical for updating what you're doing at that moment, it's not something I would use as the main way to tweet. Also, back then it cost an international rate of Rp. 500 per message because you had to send the SMS to a UK number. Now it's local and it's free.

The catch is you have to be using Three (Tri) as your provider. Oh and it doesn't support reply threads which would suck if you got a reply and you forgot the topic. You might need to clean up your SMS storage a bit more often if you decide to hit full time tweeting via SMS. The good news is you can select which tweets to receive. I'll leave you to check out the details for yourself.

I attempted this Nathan Barley-esk video shot to try and demonstrate the wind conditions on the assent to Whernside, the second of the three peaks, on the 'Yorkshire Three Peaks Challlenge'. We finished the 24 mile walk in 11.5 hours, 30 minutes under the 12 hour challenge time. #WIN

In a blogger's meeting with Three last night at their Holborn store, I was chatting to some of the Three and 1000heads / 3mobilebuzz guys over a beer.  I asked, as I always do, where the Blackberry Bold we were shown at their 'Chirstmas in July' event last year had got to.  Low and behold it launched for business customers yesterday!

-10 blogger points for me for not knowing this and congratulations to the Three team.  Although they didn't refer to it I expect at least some of the delay has allowed Three to confirm the much-reported reliability problems the Bold have [1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ] are addressed now.  They're promoting a BIS offering (which they did sight as taking some extra time to establish), but David Kerrigan Three's Head of Internet Services said they were also offering hosted BES - presumably as custom option.

The device is free with tariffs from £29.79 per month, BIS is £4.26 per month (both excluding VAT).
