Creatively random ideas came to be. The Little Thoughts Group had put up some pretty neat stuff at the Arts House. The pepper spray that blows up in your face if your on the phone for too long at dinner. The alien one of them had met, ripped it's head off and replaced with an iPod. The electric cock that crows at first light. The Singaporean parking-coupon-like calendar.

I think I expected too much from Benny Benassi. I mean he was good but I was expecting him to be awesome. I mean, it is Benassi after all. The video was a high point though! Definitely.

Being a really big DJ defeats the purpose sometimes I feel? People will dance no matter what you play. Life's easier then, but that's a downside. I wouldn't want to become lazy on the decks. I'd love to be known by music and not by name. But it doesn't work that way does it?

Life's like that too. It's complicated isn't it? It isn't always how you want it to be. I have to bend, I have to flow, but take care not to break. Yet I break, 'cause I don't take care. I want to run. Cut out all that fake shit; mine and yours. I want to feel. I want to believe. I don't want to get caught up in this concrete world.

I've recently been following a blog called First & 20, where the creator of the site posts the home screens of various important technology individuals. I also just figured out how to take a picture of my iPhone screen (hold down sleep/wake and home button simultaneously), so I decided I would do a First & 20-ish post of my own.

First row:
Calendar - Syncs with Google Calendar, so things are the same on my iPhone and iMac.
Things - Keeps track of my to do list, also syncs wirelessly with my iMac, which is nice.
Safari - I don't use this all that often, actually, but it seems like it should be here.
Google Reader - For keeping up with the news, technology and otherwise.

Second row:
Weather Channel - Excellent, much better than the built-in Weather app.
Simplenote - Best note application by far, syncs to a web app and doesn't use the Marker Felt font.
Facebook - For getting on Facebook.
Clock - I use my phone as my alarm clock.

Third row:
Doodle Jump - Great game, very addictive.
Foobi - This helps me keep track of how much I eat of each food group, I also really like the interface.
App Store - Self-explanatory.
Settings - Also self-explanatory.

Fourth row:
Camera - I really enjoy taking pictures on my iPhone, usually to post to this blog, so the whole row is set aside for photo apps.
Photos - So I can email pictures to Posterous for the blog.
CameraBag - Has some neat, easy-to-use filters.
TiltShift Generator - Best photo app for the iPhone, lets you blur edges, changes saturation, brightness, and contrast, and apply vignette.

Dock:
Phone - Self-explanatory.
Mail - Self-explanatory.
AIM - So I can talk to Amy.
Tweetie - I'm a little bit addicted to Twitter and check it often (here I am), I also used Twitterrific for a while but like Tweetie 2 better.

So there you go! If you have an iPhone and want to do this too, send me an email and I'll stick you on my blog.

In the Nov 7th 2009 issue of The Economist there is an article called "Invisible but indispensable". It describes middle-class companies in Japan who are world-leaders in their own field - yet are virtually unknown to normal consumers.

Did you know that while there are about a half-dozen of companies you could turn to buy a Nuclear reactor, there is only one - Japan Steel Works - which is capable of creating the solid-steel vessel that contains the radioactive part?

Shimano, which at least bicycle-fans have heard of, supplies about 60-70% of the worlds bicycle gears. 75% of the motors for hard-disks come from a Japanese company called Nidec. The article goes on and describes the various technologies that Japanese companies are the best at and its basically all the most integral parts of making semi-conductors.

So while the electronics-giants such as Sony are struggling with Chinese competition, these middle-sized companies are still virtual monopolies when it comes to, especially, the high-end of their expertise.

The article continues to describe the challenges these types of companies are facing in the world and is all in all an excellent piece of journalism! It's exactly because of these types of articles The Economist is the best source for news and information you'll find and will keep me waiting for and trusting their weekly analysis of what is happening in the world.

Do yourself a favor, if you aren't already subscribing, next time you are traveling - buy The Economist instead of some shiny magazine. You'll feel smarter and more knowledgeable about the world you live in.

A friend of mine at work was sharing a story last night about a friend of hers that has just been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. She was driving home to tell her mother the news because her mom will not answer the phone. Her mom has been telling her "it is nothing" as she waited a good 3+ months to go see a doctor in New Orleans. My guess is because of the fear of the news she knows could be coming.

The thing is, the news is still the same news no matter if her mom knows about it or not.

And it got me thinking about how many times I do this in my life. I bury my head in the sand and refuse to acknowledge the situation/trial/hardship I am in. Not acknowledging it doesn't mean it is not happening. I think it might just simply mean I am prolonging it from being over.

Today I used Twitter to update and to understand what was going on at the Wheeler Hall Barricade Strike. I finally understood what the fuss is over twitter! It was a great way to disseminate information and be able to follow others who were also spreading information. I was able to understand what was happening because of people who were able to tweet within Wheeler Hall as well as people who were close to the information. I was able to understand what people wanted us to do even when the megaphones sucked and I wan't able to hear what the speakers were saying. I was able to read about what happened on different parts of the barricades when things go rough. All of these were important in giving me an accurate portrait of the protest even when the word on the ground was inaccurate.

Being able to see a picture from the inside of an occupation from as student who is part of that occupation is pretty powerful!

Your heart's smooth, my soul's unbelieving
Now you see the me and I'm a-feeling
I feel your hands, your lips,
The heat of your body
Whisper you love me (say you love me)
Please just love me down never leave me
I'm a dreamer

I am probably more pleased with the layout of this site than I have been with a blog (ugh, I hate that word) I have tinkered with in a long time.

Either messing around with code on Posterous is pretty easy or I am getting pretty good at coding.

Feedback always welcome.

Been thinking a lot today about me.

About what I do. The ideas I have.

And how I give them out a lot.

I don't think I realized that I did until my wife brought it to my attention.

It is as if I know the idea is good, yet don't want to be the one standing behind it in case it fails. But I get mad when it succeeds and someone else gets the credit.

I feel blessed in knowledge about things as far as social media goes. And I think I have some pretty good ideas when it comes to how the media can be used to impact others.

However, my failures in the past have resulted in having to step away from certain aspects of it.

I think the time has come for me to make something happen. To take my ideas. Stand behind them. Success or failure.

Friday night at home for the second week in a row. Light My Sapphire, a bunch of bracelets and a huge cocktail ring. Songs from "The Asteriods Galaxy" on iTunes and Gin & Tonic are filling my mind.
Thinking about the poem and about all the times we had dessert and my idea about documenting it. If it still exists?
Heavy eyelids. Next week will be like a firecracker but until then things are grey, slow, shhhhh.

I wish I lived in the Golden Age, giving it up on the Broadway stage.
Hang with the rats and smoke cigars, have a break with Frank and count the stars.
