Michael Banovsky is our fearless leader here at The Carchat. The bloke that got this crazy freight train of gearhead shenanigans (officially: collaborative automotive insight) rolling. Between regularly scheduled tweets about catty women who leave and womeny cats who show up and sleep seductively on model cars, Michael encourages conversation on a broad range of topics which serve to expand the minds of enthusiasts across the globe. Oh yeah, and he also reviews cars like a proper automotive journalist once in a while.  Consider what he had to say in a piece about the Toyota Yaris hatchback...and the value of a dollar:

My $7 meal — three barely-there “Double Decker” tacos, satchel of fries, and a regular (read: enormous) Dr Pepper soda — will produce barely enough energy to get me to the toilet and back. Far more memorable was the amount of paper it produced, enough to make me weep for Brazilian rain forests, but not enough to entertain my cat for longer than four minutes."

It was a thoughtful piece on "The Budget Equation."  Banovsky is a regular voice here, on Twitter, on his own site, Banovsky.com (where he also does a brilliant podcast with Derek Kreindler and Nauman Farooq), on autoguide.com, on several Canadian media outlets I am sadly unable to recall from my living room in Phoenix, and is the subject of a rather large bronze statue in Derek Kreindler's living room.

(Thanks, Brian, for that stirring report. I edited a few things, but left the glowing praise. –Ed.)

Suzanne is a character. Mostly, she's the editor of ridelust.com, one of the most popular car blogs on the Internet. When she's not forming witty headlines, pining over Jeep Cherokees on Craigslist, or driving her souped-up Volvo 850, she writes stuff like:

Rumors abound that Nissan is busy at work with a new, lighter, more efficient battery pack. Unlike Chevy, who releases a press release [for the Volt] about as often as the average citizen has a bowel movement, Nissan has remained relatively tight-lipped regarding their new electric vehicle and as a result has lent the entire project an air of mystery.

We're happy to have her on Carchat; because not only does she help us meet our diversity quotas, she's actually talented. You know, like wish-I'd-thought-of-that talented.

She can be read at ridelust.com or followed on Twitter.

Yes, that's a pseudonym. To be honest, I don't know who "Asian Martin" is, other than the fact he was born a day earlier than I was and he's from the U.S.

Oh, and he's hilarious.

He brings to Carchat two things: scathing insight and an undeniable wit. Example?

Nevermind the cavorting farm animal in the background, but the lamentable shriek of narrow tyres on wet pavement and a couple of moronic Azerbaijanis attempting burnouts with the mindset that everything can produce smoke like pipe tobacco finds a commendable place in Automotive Failure Hall of Fame.

You can follow him here — or on his website or Twitter. Welcome, whoever you are…

Who the hell is this Sam guy? Well, as things happen, I followed a link…and another link, and another — finally ending up on this UK-based auto journalist-in-training's blog.

And you know what? Like everyone else here, he's a great writer:

Top Gear itself seemed to have been in a bit of a age-induced fug itself the past couple of runs — adrift like a badly-welded VW campervan in the English Channel. Where it started as a revolutionary upstart turning the world of telly on its bald head, it has become the institution it once hated, an elder amongst fresher minds.

Sam's bio, in his words:

I am a 25-year-old subject of her Britannic Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and I've had, ooh, about 23 jobs since I was 16 — including working on a German farm, a campsite in Croatia, a petrol station in North Wales and for an MP in the British Houses of Parliament. Now though, I'm in fervent training to become an automotive writer on the venerable MA course at Coventry University. I carry sarcasm, wit, lots of opinions and a small bludgeoner on a Swiss army knife wherever I go —  be prepared, they say. I love words, cars and adventures — in whatever order.

We're looking forward to see what he has in store for Carchat…

Jameson Riley is an oddity. Sure, he's done things gearheads can only dream of, like partner Derek Bell in a race team. Or drive a full-out race semi truck. Or drive a Mercedes-Benz DTM car. Because when he's not ripping up the track in the rileyracing.com Mazda RX-8 Grand-Am car, he works at a car dealership.

Yes. Jameson also knows the business side of things. He believes in fair treatment for good auto dealers, leading him to write this in a recent editorial:

Oh, and just for your own information, we don’t make $10,000 on every car sale, much to your belief and dismay. Today, we’re lucky if we make $100 on a car sale, and yes, that includes “back-end” money.

Why do you think so many dealers are out of business?

I'm so happy he's joined carchat. Problem is, what if he and Brian Makse get into a tussle on-track? Who do I root for?

Brian Makse is a Toronto, Ontario-based racing driver, driving coach and the winner of one twenty-four hour race and two championships.

He's been racing cars for almost twenty years and has had the opportunity to evaluate a wide range of vehicles, many of those on track. Between Brian and Jameson Riley, we've got a pretty well-rounded team of racers with their feet on the ground.

In his spare time, Brian says he: "chases modernist architecture around the continent and reads Douglas Coupland novels…" Maybe that's why he's an expert at finding the humour and detail in small things — like creating expertly captioned cell phone photos.

Brian is a pretty private guy, but I'm so happy he has joined the team. In his words:

I really like cars.

I truly love Mitsubishi.

And I absolutely adore rally racing.

Beyond that, he believes in the power of social media to connect automotive enthusiasts on core values. He hopes that by sharing our vehicular passions, we can support each other in living better lives.

Not known for pulling punches, this automotive journalist and journalism student hails from Toronto, Canada and maintains a blog called, "Rich Corinthian Leather." There you can read headlines like:

If God Blessed You With A Chrysler 300, Blow Up Everything And Start From Scratch

Derek has real substance, too. Despite disliking almost every classic French car — and that he owns a first generation British Racing Green Mazda Miata — he is also known as 1/3 of my better half at the Michael Banovsky Podcast.

He will most likely be posting about strange things, namely the white LaForza SUV he sees in his neighbourhood.
