"Riece" says...

"Mad World" is a song by the British band Tears for Fears. Written by Roland Orzabal and sung by bassist Curt Smith, it was the band's third single release and first chart hit, reaching #3 on the UK Singles Chart in November 1982. Two decades later, the song made a popular resurgence when it was covered in a much slower, ballad-like style by composers Michael Andrews and Gary Jules for the soundtrack to the movie Donnie Darko. This version reached no.1 in the UK in December 2003. It was also later used in trailers for the video game Gears of War and the 2010 zombie film The Crazies.

I'm a sucker for a good Music Video (obvious by both of the music videos I did for the Idiot and Baddest Man Alive record on my Youtube) and this one takes the cake I'd love to redo something like this and I think its been enough time since this came out that it could work. Shot from an aerial view the concept is children on the street forming different shapes and as they move into each shape it then transitions into another one. Its hard to describe just check it out below! (PS On a random note Ive been gettin a lot of requests to do peoples videos based on the 2 videos I did, wierd. I psoted em below so check em out and shoot me an email if you want me to do a video for you too)

Waiting at the entrance to Mountain Winery for the Tears for Fears concert. Not a fan but at least the venue is nice.

Here's a shot at last year's concert. Low light situation on Gen 1 iPhone. Let's see if the 3GS does any better.

Ever have a joke that backfires on you?

When I worked out of the film audio suite on a college campus we used to play music off a CD player before we set up the system to play off iTunes.  Problem with that setup was we had to remember to bring CDs and more often than not we would forget.  My coworker J.T. had brought in a wallet of CDs he had burned from his father's collection and one of those albums was Tears For Fears' Song From The Big Chair.  For whatever reason, this CD got left behind and I since it was all we had I started putting it in all the time as a joke.   I loved starting it up and inevitably hearing "Oh, come on!"

I didn't dislike Tears For Fears but I had also written them off, perhaps because of that new romantic-esque album cover.  But over time the album kept being placed on not only by myself but also J.T., and another coworker, Sean.  And the joke started to disappear.  I remember laughing with J.T. about our little joke and J.T. said "I... think I actually really like it..." and I admitted "Yeah... me, too.... I think I might love it."   J.T., Sean, and I did love it and played it nonstop.  I remember a student signing in and remarking "You guys play Tears For Fears every time I come in here."  Some coworkers still hated it but that only made ume love it more.

And our love grew.  We developed a dance routine to chorus of Shout... (um... we had a lot of free time).  To this day when I am with one of those coworkers and that song comes on we do that dance.  I believe we even developed a musical based on Tears For Fears songs (It had something to do with a runner or... I dunno...)  I bought the first album and with a bit of track editing got their first two albums on one CD.

A deluxe edition was released in 2006 and on it was this vpiano ersion of The Working Hour, which may be my favorite track off the album.  This version apparently closed out the cassette version of the album upon first release.  It was a nice new surprise.

I'm guessing they haven't heard this version song I am dedicating this to J.T., Sean, and the audio suite staff and the students who passed through our doorway and had to hear it repeatedly over the 2004 school year.
