The Department of Homeland Security has begun advertising its opportunities for summer research experiences for undergraduates. Students interested in interdisciplinary work at the interface of mathematics and biology would be highly competitive for this program. (Even students who are just straight math, or computer science, or biology majors would also be eligible.)
Take a look here for more information: http://www.orau.gov/dhsinternships/This announcement just came through my inbox: The U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Bioloigcal and Environmental Research is taking applications for it's Global Change Education Program's Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program.
A quick look at the program strongly suggests that students of all science or mathematical stripes woudl be eligible for consideration. Those with a strong interest in global change (which I think is 'global climate charge') and an ability to express that interest through writing and past activities, would be most competitive for the program. Take a look at the program description, here: http://www.atmos.anl.gov/GCEP/SURE/index.htmlFirst trip to the beach for the summer and Graham's first trip to the beach ever. Turns out he loves it too.
