The dude in the blue shirt is really annoying. But what he says is simply amazing!

Google just released a beta version of Google Maps Navigation (for Android 2.0 phones like the new Motorola droid.) Watch what it can do!

  • Search in plain English
  • Search by voice
  • Turn-by-turn navigation
  • View of live traffic data
  • Search along route
  • Car Dock Mode
  • Satellite view & Street View (!)

And the best part: It's absolutely free.

(Btw. Look what this did to TomTom & Garmin.)

Update: It may also be available for the iPhone soon... =)

"There's an app for that too."

Have you seen this interview that Scoble did?

The app is no where near as cool as the one Hermione has shot a twitvid of:

These are amazing. I don't think I'm alone on feeling this, but I really like this technology because I see it as completing the journey from sci-fi to reality. I've always wanted to have that digital overlay on my vision - like a Terminator, or Robocop, the Borg, a Transformer... whatever.

At the same time, I'm slightly fearful. I really think this technology will push the All-seeing Eye / Big Brother status that Google has to the next level. Just think about it for a minute - Google already has:

  • Android
  • Maps with StreetView
  • Latitude
Surely these position Google in an ideal position to dominate in this augmented reality space? At the moment developers seem to be focused on developing for the iPhone, but if Google push for convergence on their current lineup then we could be looking at an extremely powerful platform for augmented reality technology. I think it reaches the peak of all-powerful if Google is then able to take the data from all user views of this augmented reality and update StreetView in real-time.

  • Google and Hasbro buy hotels on Boardwalk.  Seriously, the irony of Google hosting a monopoly game broke my irony-meter. [Games]
  • More proof that Twitter's value is only high because RSS is behind.  Once RSS speeds up the updates Twitter is toast. [Twitter]
  • Sweet solar charger for the iPhone.  If you detect any iphone envy from me it's because I have iphone envy. [iPhone]
  • Perhaps I spoke too soon when I declared Pajiba's Transformer 2 review as the best review ever.  I think this Netflix review of Enemy of the State may top it. [Movies]
  • Al Franken - the Teabag Whisperer - calms the asylum. [Politics]

As always, thanks to Reddit for providing great material...
