Is this the most pointless press release ever issued? L&B cops have appealed for help in finding puppies stolen in a break-in. Awww.

Now it might have potential for coverage but skip down to the Notes to Editor bit . . .

PUPPIES STOLEN, EDINBURGH
0800hrs, 20/10/09

Press Office, Fettes

Police in Edinburgh are appealing for information after four puppies were stolen from a flat in Albert Street on Friday (October 16).

The Staffordshire bull terrier pups were taken when the flat was broken into sometime between 11.30am and 1.45pm.

The puppies are eight weeks old, two of them are black, and two have brindle markings.

A police spokesperson said: “The owner is very upset at the loss of the puppies.

“We are appealing for anyone who might have seen people acting suspiciously in the area at the time, or from anyone who has heard of this kind of puppy being offered for sale, to contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or Crimestoppers in confidence and complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.

NOTE TO EDITORS: There are no images of the puppies available and the owner does not wish to speak to the media

Issued by Martin Couper on 20/10/2009 08:05:01

If Martin Couper or his bosses at Fettes press office had any balls, even the canine variety, they would have told the cop that asked for this release to be issued that he/she was barking.

No pics and owner doesn't want to play ball - simple solution - take a hike. But what about the waste of resources in putting this together and then polluting news desk in-boxes with a release which has no chance of getting hacks to bite?

Try getting the media office to answer the dog and bone when you have an urgent inquiry about an ongoing incident or suspicious death and that's a different matter entirely - you've got more chance of them showing you their puppies.

Anyway, that's enough dog puns for one day, back to the real job . . .

I am annoyed. Some disgusting idiot stole the beach cruiser I use to bike around town. The bike is very recognizable. Its a black beach cruiser, coaster brakes with whitewall tires and eight ball . I am worried that I might spot the bike because Im so angry I might have trouble holding back.

I'll just get another but I have to find a better storage location. Anyone can walk into my garage and just carry off stuff. Not sure how I can secure the place since its wide open. I might just need to lock down stuff. I hate having to do that but apparently this is a shit neighborhood with a lot of thieves.

Thieves, equipped with either a little luck or brazen skill, managed to swipe–in broad daylight–an $80,000 Viper red hot rod from a driveway in Breslau last week. Owner John C. Adams, Cambridge, left the Pro Street 1948 Ford Business Coupe at his friend’s house on Woolwich Street North in Breslau on Sept. 29. Adams went home and his friend went to Paris for the day. They left the custom-built car in the driveway. When the friend came back at 5 p.m. the car was gone. He assumed Adams had taken it home. It wasn’t until Adams called on Friday that they realized neither of them had the car. Read more in Waterloo (Ontario, Canada)Record

When I arrived home from work yesterday evening, there were several teenagers hanging around under the trees on the green outside our house. I noticed them because of their propensity to shout and whistle across the green to each other instead of walk and talk. Every other word also began with F, which I will admit caused me to shake my head.

I jumped off my bike, and rolled it up the side of the house, where we are due to have a gate fitted any day now.

This morning I put my helmet on, threw my backpack on my back, and wandered out to grab the bike.

One problem. No bike.

This morning I have a "crime reference number" for the first time in my life. After 8 years of peaceful existence in a quiet corner of town, the local kids I have always sided with and given the benefit of the doubt have provided me with just the excuse to take the same view that everybody else seems to.

I guess the term "once bitten" is appropriate.

Strangely, I'm not furious about the bike being stolen. Annoyed perhaps, but remarkably calm about it. I guess now we have a family, the importance of various things that might happen has been revised somehow - in the great scheme of things having to buy a new bike isn't exactly earth shattering.

I must remember to buy some padlocks too. And CCTV. And a baseball bat.
