Indian Premier League or IPL as its most commonly known has clearly changed the scope, reach, face and impact of cricket as a game in a country (India) where the same game is also referred to as a second religion for many.

The reasons for the league being loved are different for different batches of people. Some like it for its format, some enjoy the same because its great entertainment for a few hours, for some it might just be involvement of some of the famous and favorite celebrities and also for some maybe its just the love for the game of cricket. I'm not a big sports fan or a cricket fanatic but I do appreciate how the league has taken the country and also the world by the storm.

I found this video interview (read: verbose ;) ) on the website of CNN IBN. Here's Karan Thapar grilling (almost literally) Lalit Modi, who is the Chairman of IPL. I'd not tell you more about the four part interview besides that if you like cricket as a game and IPL as a format you'd not want to miss this one. Your comments on this four part video is anticipated. I'm sure fans, viewers and people who do enjoy watching interviews would have at least something to say after they're done watching this one.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SRK!!!! *sigh* You're the bestest!

I've been a fan of SRK since... like..forever? Really. Ever since I was a kid. I used to wonder when my dream of meeting him would come true. I always thought that I must wait until I'm like really old and save up my money and go to London or US or something to meet him cuz thats where most fans usually meet him. And then I heard about Zee Carnival and that SRK was coming to Singapore for it. I was so excited... I purchased tickets for the carnival ASAP. I wasn't hoping for anything big though, just seeing him for real infront of my eyes and just being in the same place would've been HUGE for me anyway.

So on 11th October 2008, I went to Suntec City in Singapore and queued up to meet SRK, get his autograph and photo with him. Even then I didn't think that it'd actually happen. BUT IT DID! I actually had to pinch myself to make sure it wasn't a dream. I went up the stage...shook his hand and HUGGED HIM and took a photo with him. And when he gave his autograph I said "I LOVE YOU SHAHRUKH!! YOU'RE THE BEST". Guess what he replied? "God bless you". HAHA. I mean thats how humble he is. He's just so charismatic and sweet that anyone would just love him. He's beautiful inside and outside :D .

Happy Birthday once again SRK! I'm blessed to be one of those lucky people who got to go up on stage that day and meet you!

I was just wondering if all the security personnel on India airports know ALL the superstars of Hollywood. What happened to SRK in US, can EASILY happen with Johnny Depp or Hugh Jackman on 'Chatrapti Shivaji International Airport of Mumbai'. Imagine a tambaaku chewing baabu asking him.... "kai kaam kartaiye tumhi Amreeka madhe?" (what work do you exactly do back in the US?) MAYBE, we just like exaggerating and dramatizing the incidents a little more than we should.

The only saving grace (if that's what you would want to REALLY call it) which would shadow the ignorance of the security personnel would be the fact that the media would in any case hype the arrival of a superstar on Indian soil probably months in advance and the scenario would be completely different because then we would have a flasy presentation of Nashik Dhol and kohli dancers, some sidey politician welcoming the celebrity and probably gifting him a stay in on of the finest hotels of the city with all expenses paid through Indian tax payers money. The celebrity would be treated like GOD, his bedsheets, mirrors in the room would be personally autographed by him and auctioned at ridiculous prices in an event which will be attended by the who's who of the country with obviously some part of proceeds being donated to some NGO feeding mal nourished children in some God forsaken corner of the globe. AND if the media was silent about arrival of a particular celebrity, I seriously wonder if the security at the International Airports would be in a position to differentiate a celeb from the sea of firangs (foreigners) they deal with on day to day basis. Forget about racial bias, I'd not want to reflect on the reasons for which custom officers can harass tired, irritated passengers after a long haul flight and never ending queues on the air port. On the contrary I wouldn't be surprised if a fair skinned attractive lady is given preference just because the official felt the urge to behave nicely with her after falling for her within 3 and half seconds of seeing her.

SO, I think we seriously need to chew on that thought and consider if we are right when we decide to pass comments stating that the officials at the Newark Airport were wrong when the interrogated the super star form India for two hours. What about million other travelers who go through the exact same procedure or maybe even a lot more because the have the exact same surname like Shah Rukh? Think about it guys. Lemme know your thoughts on this one ;)

Now that I've written this, I just hope my name and or surname doesn't end up on the blacklist of US Security forces for reasons best and known only to them.

zyakaira notes: it's here NFL (Superbowl ) $4.5 billion, IPL $1.6 billion Watch out for edition 3 of the IPL! and I'm still backing the New York Giants and i'd be finding out on my own and publishing it in a year on this and Wimbledon and Olympics

The NFL is the world's strongest sports brand according to Sports Pro Magazine. The National Football League, not surprisingly, is valued at a whopping $4.5 billion. That's a little more than Major League Baseball, about double the value of the NBA, but still probably less than Larry King's per show kitty.

In Sports Pro's recent "most valuable brands survey", the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket competition amazingly featured amongst the biggest brands too. Despite being only two years old, the IPL is valued at US$1.6 billion, or just under the cost of Mr. King's monthly hairdressing bill. That's when you know you've made it folks.
