Although some are saying that the email age is coming to an end, the data shows the opposite is true - it increases our reliance on mail. With Gmail adding new features all the time and services like Posterous, Twitgether, Evernote, Remail and others working seamlessly with my Gmail account, I am always on the hunt for services that make email even more useful. Enter NutshellMail, which I read about on Web Worker Daily

NutshellMail is a really slick service that brings Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace updates right to your email box. Once you authorize the service to connect it will scan your accounts and deliver updates as often as hourly. I have set up my account to poll every few hours and scoop up news. I have set up a filter in Gmail so that these get shuttled to a special label, which I can review on any device and even respond back all via email as well.

Give it a go. It's a great service for tracking your social networks.

"You can't buy attention anymore. Having a huge budget doesn't mean anything in social media.
The old media paradigm was PAY to PLAY. Now you get back what you authentically put in. You've got to be willing to PLAY to PLAY."

Media chaos that is.

Clay Shirky, author of Here Comes Everybody, argues that the next 50 years of media will be chaos, as old models break faster than new ones are being created.

Dr. Michael Wesch, takes a close look at YouTube as an anthropological phenomenon. It's a prime example of what social collaboration on the internet can achieve (in only 4 years!) - and how it can will change things for the better. Very insightful and entertaining. Be sure to watch the whole thing. Make it your evening program tonight!

Btw, it's from the same guy who brought us this:

Anti-virus maker AVG is warning of a new worm spreading on Facebook via user’s walls.

According to one of AVG’s bloggers, the worm spreads as users that are already logged into the social network click on the suggestive photo that is being placed on their walls by infected friends.

Here’s how it works:

“For those unfamiliar with Facebook (is there anyone other than me in that set?) the thumbnail of the worm’s infective page is a link to the page. The worm’s objective, of course, is that others viewing the victim’s wall will click the link, and as they are logged into Facebook, the worm will propagate its link to that victim’s wall, and so on…

This worm uses what is technically known as a CSRF (Cross-site Request Forgery, also called XSRF) attack. A sequence of iframes on the exploit page call a sequence of other pages and scripts, eventually resulting in a form submission to Facebook “as if” the victim had submitted a URL for a wall post and clicked on the “Share” button to confirm the post.”

While this attack seems to cause more embarrassment than it does damage to your computer or account, it also seems like one of the easier ones to fall for since all it requires is “clicking da button, baby.” The long and short of it seems to be: avoid the booty.

Internet Vices illustrated by Patrick Moberg. Which ones are yours?

tumblr

is a bottle of wine
A quiet night in with a couple friends, and a couple of their friends. Spilling nostalgic stories, flipping through photo albums, singing favorite songs, aiming for poignancy, and occasionally stumbling onto it. Emotions flow freely and without thought.

twitter

is crack cocaine
Fucking ANYONE is your friend. Yuppies do it on their iPhone. Cheap. Short. Fruitless.

youtube

is shots of tequila
"Just ONE" to humor your friend quickly turns into 4 or 5. Anything and everything becomes wildly entertaining. A fun way to waste some time you won't really remember the details of. Probably for the best.

vimeo

is a tab of good acid
Everyone here is pretty nice and pretty chill. You'll witness some truly beautiful things. Sometimes emotional, visits can be long or short, but you'll leave amazed, and with a better understanding of the world.

facebook

is a vodka cranberry
Social lubricant used to enhance still developing social etiquette. You're aware of your uninhibited actions, but comforted by the built in safety net of excuses.

myspace

is huffing spray paint
Destroys any chance of looking credible. You will be perceived as having the mindset of a middle schooler, and probably do.

digg

is bong hits of weed
Sensationalist political and religious talk. Plans of overthrowing mass media fall prey to collective laziness. Obsess over some "mind blowing" HDR photography.

gmail

is caffeine pills
Great for a quick pick me up to stimulate productivity, but ultimately leaves you exhausted and relying on it.
