Some very useful ideas on undertaking a process of life long learning and how it can improve your career rather than deplete your social life.

Free Personal Learning eBookWhen it comes to career development, many people don’t know where to start.

This short guide builds on a series of blog posts that were written over the last few months, and is designed to help prepare you (and your career) for 2010 and beyond. The guide explains how learning can be incorporated into your every day (working and learning) life, how to set some goals for your career, and importantly, how you can use technology in a way that accelerates your learning and skilling process.

To make life easier, the book is available as both an eBook AND a printed book. The eBook is FREE and is available immediately.

If you prefer your books in a printed format, you can order it on-demand from Lulu.com. You only pay for the printing and shipping – there is no margin. You will, however, need to wait for the book to be printed and shipped.

This week I started a new job at SAP.  I joined SAP in February of 2008 as a product specialist in the NetWeaver Regional Implementation Group, helping to bridge the gap between development and the field (customers, partners, consultants).  We were recognized as thought leaders and experts in our respective areas of expertise, and served as the voice of the customer back to product management and development to have direct impact on the products.  I had an awesome time being part of this team of extremely smart and talented people it was very challenging and rewarding from day one Actually from day one it was kind of like drinking from a fire hose (in a good way, of course)

I had the opportunity to meet and work with dozens of customers, partners, consultants, and others on the topic of BI, SAP BW, BusinessObjects, and the like and hopefully provided some valuable information and insight to them in times of need.  All this was excellent, but it is time for a change many things prompted the move: less travel, upskilling new areas, considering going back to school, more time for writing and other time consuming projects I wish to pursue.   I am transitioning to a team called Market Insight that is providing reporting and analytics solutions internally at SAP.  I think it will be an interesting career change that leverages my deep background in SAP and BusinessObjects reporting solutions.  So with the start of my job and a refreshing change in direction in my career I thought I would take the opportunity to start a new blog.  I have told myself many times I was going to do this, and even setup a wordpress blog which I let die on the vine before I even planted it.

So here it is.  My opinions and thoughts on various subjects (as is any blog I guess).  Please chime in and comment if you like or dont like what I have to say.. above all I am here to collaborate with others, start a dialogue, and meet people with similar interests.  I look forward to seeing where this goes.

Thanks for reading.

This is a pretty exciting announcement if you’re an SAP Developer.  If not, well, just ignore this.

http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/weblogs?blog=/pub/wlg/16455#

This week at TechEd Vienna SAP announces a code exchange platform, where developers can share source code and collaborate on development projects. The platform has been in the making for some time, but by the end of this year it will be available for the community and integrated in SDN. Project owners can upload and share source code, models, metadata, documentation, sample data, configurations etc. and work collaboratively on the projects. Source code management, issue tracking, discussion forums, and other features will support them in their work. The integration into SDN will make it easy to find relevant projects and to cross-reference other SDN content.

In the past, dozens of SDN community members created applications that filled white spaces in the SAP offerings. SAPlink by Ed Herrmann and Dan McWeeney or Detroubulator by Morten Wittrock are just two of several dozen projects, currently hosted on other code sharing platforms. SAP wants to give projects like these a home in order to increase their visibility and to help them leverage the power of the SDN community.

With the new platform on SDN, projects will not only be more visible on SDN, they will also profit extensively from the developer and customer community. Project owners can much easier find additional project members to help develop, test and document their add-ons, and customers can rate and give feedback to projects. This will help all parties. More resources mean more and better add-ons filling more feature gaps, and project members will much better understand the needs of their users. Code exchange will be the one-stop-shop for developers and customers.

To support the new platform SAP also introduces new NetWeaver Developer Licenses that allow individual developers to use ABAP programming language and the NetWeaver Composition Environment offering free of charge to develop and share their prototypes on code exchange.

Both the code exchange area on SDN and the NetWeaver Developer Licenses will be rolled out to the larger SDN community by the end of this year. In the meantime, SAP Mentors as well as first pilot projects will get access to the platform as a close beta in order to co-develop SAP’s new co-development platform together with SAP’s top contributors.

If you are interested in learning more or participate with a pilot project, contact Erwin Tenhumberg or Mario Herger.

Mario Herger is a member of the Technology Standards & Open Source team.

É isto a economia virtual...)

P.S.-não consigo fazer download de mais de 15Mb do video; se por acaso alguém lá for e conseguir tirar tudo, mail me please!

FREE PowerPoint Twitter Tools

Ever wanted to make presentations a more interactive, Web 2.0 experience? A prototype version of the PowerPoint Twitter Tools is now available for testing. Created using SAP BusinessObjects Xcelsius (but requiring only PowerPoint for Windows and Adobe Flash to run), the twitter tools allow presenters to see and react to tweets in real-time, embedded directly within their presentations, either as a ticker or refreshable comment page. There are currently four tools:

  • PowerPoint Twitter ticker bar
  • PowerPoint Twitter feedback slide
  • PowerPoint Twitter voting
  • PowerPoint Crowd Meter

    downloadnow

Download the PowerPoint presentation with embedded PowerPoint Twitter Tools as a .zip file (Office 2007)

Download the PowerPoint presentation with embedded PowerPoint Twitter Tools as .ppt file (Office 2003)

Currently only works on Windows (sorry) — investigating Mac and Open Office support.

Read detailed instructions, frequently asked questions and troubleshooting

Display a real-time twitter Bar at the bottom of each slide

The twitter ticker bar sits at the bottom of each PowerPoint slide, displaying the ten latest tweets that contain a particular search string (e.g. “#businessobjects”). Status is maintained across slide transitions.

Display a feedback slide with questions and comments from Twitter

Replace your standard Q&A slide with a twitter-powered version!

Real-time voting over Twitter

Let the audience vote on choices by sending a tweet! Supports up to six choices, and up to 100 votes.

Crowd Meter

When you want to take a break from using Twitter for interaction, try the PowerPoint Crowd Meter – monitors and displays the noise of the crowd in the room, and shows the maximum volume over the last ten seconds – use it for crowd voting!
