Note to Sandra Bullock:  I forgive you for "All About Steve".  This is the kind of movie you should make going forward.

This movie was just shy of being sappy and a degree less of being over sentimental and enough feel good to make me recommend it to my friends.

Things were just too safe and too perfect for my own protection.  I needed a bit more grit but left with the first 'feel good" of the season.

Note to Tim McGraw:  more Tim McGraw next time.

Movie:  3 Stars out of 5

So we went to the new Alamo Drafthouse Cinema @ Park North.  The original @ Westlakes is just too far from where we live to make the trip worthwhile.

It's always nice to be able to drink beer with your movie but then again we already can do that @ Rialto or @ Bijou movie theaters in our hood and as I found out today, for a lot less.

Seems the menu was a bit on the pricey side so we only got beer (blue moon) and queso w/ chips instead of eating there as we planned.  These are desperate times after all.

Still it's nice to have another movie option.  We usually wind up @ AMC 24 because I like the extreme stadium seating.  The seating @ Alamo was equally nice as they have a mini aisle for the waiters that spreads out the rows and makes it so that you have no view obstruction like you find @ Quarry Market Cinemas.

Theater: 3.2 Stars out of 5

PS:  They had these quirky old timey ads and promos going on before the movie started including one that promoted their Beer Growler ala ipod commercial style.  Cute.

PPS:  it's always disengaging to enter a theater during the brightness of day and then exit during the darkness of night.

PPPS:  It's difficult to take pix of your food in a darkened theater only on an iPhone with no camera flash.

thoughts which occurred to me whilst watching 28 days, the sandra bullock rehab movie:

1. if you are not currently or never have been 'in recovery', this film would be pretty much unwatchable

2. even with that being the case, the first twenty minutes of 28 days are pretty much unwatchable.

3. not enough people have been in recovery for a movie to rely entirely on people who will smile wryly at jokes about the serenity prayer to pull crowds globally. its... kind of a niche market.

4. hollywood needs to come up with a new acting shorthand for 'irredeemably dysfunctional woman who is going to die eventually' that is not 'pulling the sleeves of your jumper down over your fists'.

the funniest thing was that 28 days was the catalyst for me having a really great dream about being in rehab- a really well designed rehab, with a bar that sold beer but no spirits*, populated by really hott men with nothing so messy as any sort of apparent addiction issue. also the only problem with the men in my dream rehab is that they would look over the wall of the mixed gender showers, forcing me to get on my high horse about how even in rehab i deserved to be able to shower without having men looking at my tits and that this served absolutely no therapeutic purpose whatsoever. obviously the men in dream rehab rejected this thesis- because my tits are so great- and that caused a bit of a ruckus, to the point where i was very pleased indeed when the pet shop boys arrived on their weekly visit to the facility and told me that they thought it was GREAT that i was standing up for my rights not to be watched showering. they were so supportive! it was awesome, i felt really bolstered by their positivity. once i had proved everyone wrong about the mixed gender showers thing i kind of swanned around rehab, telling everyone about the documentary someone had made about me in my last rehab clinic, and changing my clothes every now and again. it is very important in rehab to look your best at all times, and you can never have to many fur stoles or walk around in your underwear too much. at one point i did think 'maybe i shouldnt be walking around in my knickers so much if there are sex addicts in this rehab because it might be a bit mean'. this logic obviously did not stop me taking lots of showers though. generally, it was an awesome dream. i lvoe dreaming.

* well of course theres a bar in my dream rehab facility. recovery is very exhausting and you totally need to kick back and enjoy a brewski every now again.

Sta benissimo bionda e il film sembra bello! Voglio vederlo!
Perché ancora Sandra non abbia un Oscar, è un bel mistero.

Sandra Bullock is looking mighty fine these days. Did you catch her bright-eyed makeup at the MTV Movie Awards? I'm particularly digging the actress's slightly messy, voluminous ponytail, which she wore to the Los Angeles premiere of her new film, The Proposal. If you'd like to duplicate this fairly simple, stylish look, check out my how-to below for some inspiration:
