I saw this on Yahoo and I just had to watch the video.
First off, Sony, don't be a bitch-ass baby, ok? A PS3 cost too damn much as it is. To make it worse, a Blu-Ray player itself (any brand) cost about the same amount. This is why Nintendo is kicking your ass. Sorry but, it's true. Plus, adding the economic issues we have, there's no way people will shell out almost 400 for a console/DVD player, 50-60 for games, and any things you'll need.
Fron What I heard, the rumor is after Sony get's it's diaper changed, they will cut the price by 100 bucks. Maybe I'm crazy but if I wanted to beat the Nintendo Wii, wouldn't it be better to make the price a little lower than the Wii itself? Again, that's just me.

"Ars Technica's "favorite inside source" is at it again, telling the Web site that Sony is clearing inventory on the $399 80GB PS3 in advance of "dropping the price of hardware and launching the PS3 Slim rumor in the fall."

At the same time, Ars' mole claims the 60GB Xbox 360 Pro ($299) will be replaced by the Xbox 360 Elite ($399), which has a higher-capacity 120GB hard drive. In other words, Microsoft will offer up more hard drive capacity at the $299 price point, which seems to dovetail nicely with its plans to deliver a full assortment of retail game downloads that require more disc space than Xbox 360 Arcade titles." ..more info at link.

I *love* my Harmony remote. I think it's one of the smartest consumer devices to come out outside of Apple. Especially when you have an AV receiver and many components, it's an essential tool. It switches all your components perfectly with a single touch.

Since getting this remote for my parents, i get ZERO tech support calls about their TVs.

But the one flaw was it couldn't control a PS3 since the Playstation uses bluetooth only. If you get an IR receiver for the PS3, it sorta works, except on/off

Until now. This adapter takes the signal from your remote and converts it to a bluetooth signal to the PS3. Setup was a snap and it works perfectly.

Now for the crazy part. When I control my PS3, a signal goes from my Harmony remote to the Logitech Wireless Extender, over RF. The signal then goes from that extender to this PS3 adapter over IR. And then goes from this adapter to the PS3 over BT.

All that, just to pause the movie I'm watching :)

"Our trusty inside source spills the beans about Sony's long-term strategy. The PSP-Go! is real, and should be announced at E3. The more surprising news? A slimmed-down PS3 is in fact coming, but not until Sony sells the PS3s sitting on retail shelves." ...more details at link.

Stu's suggestions here are particularly handy for color correcting and encoding for VOD. Using the playstation as a conduit during post is a perfect DIY solution

The plans that are unfolding for this platform are bigger than most people know. We can talk about the online Poker, for virtual money in another post. But take note of the stadium complex towards the end of this video. Look at its size and complexity. What's going to happen there? Let's have some fun imagining....I'm going to guess Madden 2012 World Championship game, brought to you by the Home Niketown, with a live halftime show by a 3D photorealistic Rihanna?

That's what makes the thing so amazing...the shear unlimited potential of this medium, combined with exponential increases in computer processing power. Its redonkulous. And if you aren't paying attention, you're going to get left behind.

And did anyone else take note of the recent agreement between EA and ESPN to license ESPN content across all EA properties? How long will it be until we see SportsCenter in Home?

In the future, companies will be split into two groups...companies that "got it" and companies that got left behind.

What do you think? What other companies do you see leading in this space?

It's a rare occurrence that I fire up my IBM Thinkpad and boot it into Windows XP, but when I heard about PlayOn Digital Media Server, I scrolled through the old GRUB boot loader and loaded up old XP for the win. Following these simple steps, I was watching on demand Hulu, Netflix, CBS, ESPN and Youtube on my 40-inch 1080p TV in seconds.

  1. Download PlayOn
  2. Run PlayOn Installer
  3. Turn on PS3 and visit the video menu
  4. Choose Hulu from the PlayOn Menu
  5. An episode of The Office started within seconds.

To my complete and utter surprise...that was it. The PS3 and laptop were each connected to my WiFi network, and the PS3 found the media server immediately. It's sad that my expectations would have me believe that this wouldn't work, but since it did I thought I'd share.

The PlayOn Beta is supposed to be a 14-day free trial, followed by a one time $30 fee. We'll see how they progress and how much use I get out of it before opening my wallet, but it looks like a good start.

According to the WSJ, it is!

The sales have gone down, and most experts blame it on the price of the console. Which may indeed be the case. Dave Rosenberg at CNet has some more viewpoints to share. Not just price, but also lack of exclusive games (I agree), not enough community stuff (yup!) and just being out-marketed.

I add a personal one: it is an absolutely horrendous design that no-one wants to have sit on their A/V rack. Big fat ugly bastard console.

Most people will more likely have every damn game system that has been ever made and plan to get any future systems. But, I been having this little problem for a little bit of time. Me and my brother share a Wii. He has his games and I have mine. My next big thing that I want for myself is a toss up between a PS3 and Xbox. Here's how I break it down in my head.

PS3 Pros:
DVD/Blu Ray player, Ratchet & Clank, Silent Hill Homecoming, it's black, I have 2 PSP's so it would be nice to use them with that, and Little Big Planet.
PS3 Cons:
The price, possible lack of games I'd like to play/buy.

Xbox Pros:
Cheap price, Silent Hill Homecoming, my first Xbox ever and Banjo-Kazooie.
Xbox Cons:
It's white, lacking games I'd want to play/buy, Red Ring Of Death, Banjo-Kazooie, shelling out for a fan and HD.

That's pretty much my gaming dilemma in a nutshell.
