With immediate effect the customers can publicly evaluate the online printers in their online shop and submit feedback on customer satisfaction. This is made possible by the customer evaluation portal of Trusted Shops, the leading European certifier of online shops that also certified the German website www.diedruckerei.de and the English website www.onlineprinters.com .

The new evaluation system is just as simple as it is safe. With only a few clicks the buyer rates the quality of the website, the delivery, the merchandise and the customer service on a scale between one and five points. In addition, the buyers can add to their evaluation a personal commentary. Subsequently, the...

Feast your eyes on some bibliomachy: John Carrera of the Quercus Press in Waltham, Massachusetts—and a host of friends—build a fresh edition of the classic Webster's Pictorial Dictionary.

It's moving to watch the book embodied in this way—and staggering to realize that these crafts, exhibited here by artisans of such painstakingly high caliber, once were practiced at industrial scale.

Eagle Technologies to expand by acquisition.

Eagle Technologies Ltd has said it will look to make acquisitions to support its continued growth after announcing record results to the year end December 31st 2008 and a further increase on sales during 2009.

Managing Director Chris Rayner said: "The past financial years have been busy and challenging for us as we expand our client network both domestically and internationally, and across various vertical market sectors to help insulate us from the effects of the downturn”.

"Our policy of re-investment in new premises, manufacturing/distribution and own brand expansions has helped us maintain our position as a leader in the field of plastic card printers, consumables and support services”.

"We approach 2010 with a healthy appetite for further growth and are on the lookout for bolt-on acquisitions to enhance our IT offering and to further expand the card printer market with our in-house capability”.

Headquartered in Bracknell, Berkshire, Eagle Technologies also operates across regional offices in Oxford, Buckingham, Europe and USA.

Key successes include Eagle’s product packed customised websites which resellers lease (Complete-ID), simple low cost plug and print bundles (Revolution Range), inclusive onsite card printer warranties / operator support, Plus-Ribbon, Plus-Card and more recently Plus-Clean which continue to deliver growth throughout the financial year.

The company says it is interested in acquiring companies with a turnover from £150,000 to £4million per annum and likely to be active in the card market or IT equipment/consumables sectors. Also attractive will be owners wishing to remain active and contribute towards our continued growth.

Rayner added that the company is interested in expanding its product range with particular interest in cross selling activities.

Interested sellers should email Chris Rayner directly. All correspondence and communications will remain strictly confidential.

We all know that different colours stimulate different attitude and emotions. Great thought and attention to the use of colour is essential therefore, in any design process, because of the way that they give off meaning and feelings.

The two main colour printing systems used in printing services are Pantone and CMYK. I want to just give a quick overview to these on my blog today, again promted by a conversation with a client.

The Pantone Matching System (PMS), Pantone colour or Spot colour is a colour system based on a set of pigments which are mixed to produce solid colour inks. The colours are mixed prior to printing resulting in being more accurate and consistent all throughout the print job. Also, Pantone colours can be ‘screened’. This means that fewer dots of colour are used per inch, resulting in the colour emerging lighter. Pantone colours are indispensable when it comes to logos and corporate collateral. This is especially true if the customer is interested in using the exact colour in print job.

The use of Pantone colours in printing services can be expensive compared to CMYK. The use of Pantone colours is normally limited to three colours only in most printing presses. There are some however that can handle more inks. Pantone colours used on your logo, graphics or used as your corporate colour ensures that exact colours can be yielded each time you go to print.

Cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK) colours also known as four colour printing or process colour printing, uses the four ink colours in order to yield tiny dots referred to as screen or line screen. These dots contain tiny mix of colours. This is the reason why process printing can produce and almost full range of colour. When your printing needs demand a wider colour application, you can opt for four colour printing.

Four colour printing services is on the whole less expensive than Pantone colour printing. If you further want lesser expense on shorter print runs then go for CMYK digital printing instead of four lithographic colour printing. Be careful though… digital printing can get pricy when you start printing hight volumes, so always double check your prices.

There are some printers that will allow you to print using CMYK with one or two Pantone or Spot colours, even spot varnishing and so much more!

My ultimate advice - speak to someone who knows what they are talking about when buying print. Other factors like sealing, creasing, laminating, and die cutting could come into it - and the whole business about what stock to get it printed on.

August update

Posted: August 25th, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

There’s been some big changes at The Rizzeria over the past few months; sorry for the absence but we’re hopefully almost back on track.

The big news is that we’ve moved! Our new home is at Workshop Showroom, 9 Edith St, St Peters. It’s an easy bus trip from the city (422) or a train ride and walk from St Peters station.

We’re building some storage and other things in our new space at the moment, and hope to be back up and running for open print studio action by next Friday September 4. Just in time for all the last minute TINA printing to be done, perhaps?

getting ready for the MCA zine fair

Posted: May 23rd, 2009 | Author: rizzeria | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

Friday’s open print studio was busy with people getting final printing done for the MCA zine fair this Sunday 24 May.

Mechelle came in and had a crash course in pagination and printing on the RZA off the glass, and started printing her zine of illustrations – beautiful line drawings of sweet food. She’s printed the pages in red, black and blue, on a linen-style paper that we found at the back of a cupboard (we have stocks of donated or cheaply acquired paper, often seconds – feel free to drop by on an open studio day to see what we have that you can print on).
