What you'll need:

  1. Pidgin
  2. Facebook Chat for Pidgin
How to set it up:

Firstly you must download and install Pidgin (see link above). What is Pidgin?

Pidgin is a chat program which lets you log in to accounts on multiple chat networks simultaneously. This means that you can be chatting with friends on MSN, talking to a friend on Google Talk, and sitting in a Yahoo chat room all at the same time.

Pidgin is compatible with the following chat networks out of the box: AIM, ICQ, Google Talk, Jabber/XMPP, MSN Messenger, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr. It can support many more with plugins.

Pidgin supports many features of these chat networks, such as file transfers, away messages, buddy icons, custom smilies, and typing notifications. Numerous plugins also extend Pidgin's functionality above and beyond the standard features.

So it's basically a free chat client that supports pretty much every chat network out there. And if a chat network isn't supported by Pidgin out of the box, a plugin will most likely exist providing this support. This leads me nicely to the second step which is download and install Facebook Chat for Pidgin (see link above). Download the .exe file and install it.

Once that's installed, run Pidgin > Accounts > Manage Accounts > Add > select Facebook from the Protocol drop down list and enter your credentials > Click Add.

You're done. There's nothing else to do but chat away with your Facebook friends without having to go to facebook.com.

Thanks

Format Script.rev (9 KB)

This tText plugin is designed to format Rev scripts into HTML for display in a web page.

To install:

  1. Download the "Format Script.rev" file.
  2. Start tText and select "Plugin Manager" from the Plugins menu.
  3. Select the last line in the list.
  4. Click the "Existing" radio button.
  5. Click the "Add" button and select the "Format Script.rev" file you just downloaded.

It will get added to the list and will be available for use when you close the Plugin Manager.

To use:

  1. Copy some script from your script editor.
  2. Go back to tText, place the insertion cursor where you want the script to go, and select "Format Script" from the Plugins menu.
  3. The script in your clipboard will be formatted into HTML and inserted into your tText document.

This is great for adding scripts to blog posts or web pages. For further styling, configure the code & pre tags in your style sheet as the formatting will use both of those tags.

Have fun,

Sarah

Change Case.rev (7 KB)

This is my first tText plugin :-)

It's very simple - it just changes the case of the selected text to all upper case or to all lower case, so if you don't get the result you want, just do it again.

To install:

  1. Download the "Change Case.rev" file.
  2. Start tText and select "Plugin Manager" from the Plugins menu.
  3. Select the last line in the list.
  4. Click the "Existing" radio button.
  5. Click the "Add" button and select the "Change Case.rev" file you just downloaded.

It will get added to the list and will be available for use when you close the Plugin Manager.

To use:

  1. Select text in tText.
  2. Select Change Case from Plugins Menu.
If the first char you have selected is upper case, then all other chars in the selection will become upper case. Likewise, if the first char you have selected is lower case, then all subsequent chars in the selected text will become lower case.

NOTE: Undo works. You can cmd+z to get back your previous text.

Have fun,

Sarah Reichelt

Arguably the "web-economy" is based on advertisement financing, and without doubt, many of our favorite websites may only exists due to these ads. However, most ads are implemented by using Flash. Also, especially in the case of online newspapers, flash-ads tend to be annoying and take up very much visual space. On several occasions I've found myself with a chunk of my own hair in my clenching fists because Safari after several minutes of the spinning beach-ball of death decided to "quit unexpectedly" (it wasn't really that unexpected) because of, you guessed right,  the *#$”$  Flash plugin. I've got a fever and the only cure is Click2Flash.

Click2Flash is one of the few "real" plugins made for Safari. It isn't one of those applications that has to sneak in under the hood and do stuff that we wasn't suppose to do, and would break with every other update of the browser. But what does it do?

C2F goes through website when they render and puts a nice empty frame where flash-embeds should go. As the name hints at, you can click the frames to get the flash-content. –But what about my Youtube-sessions?! Do I have to click every-time I want to see that dog on the skateboard? Well, no. C2F also features a “whitelist” where you can add website where you do want the flash-plugin to be active.

C2F is free as in gratis (but consider a donation): http://rentzsch.github.com/clicktoflash/

Neues Wordpressplugin für das iPhone, zum managen eines Wordpress Blogs, mit erstklassigen Funktionen. http://iphone.wordpress.org/

1. javascript support
this is probably the biggest thing that i really need right now - i presumed that posterous had javascript already active because of the ability to use tumblr themes. i should have spotted that straight away really when they ask for your analytics code in the admin settings. i'm pretty sure javascript is coming and i think it will be one of the pro features maybe. looking forward to seeing what the pro accounts bring actually. sign me up! - i'm guessing that tumblr will go this way pretty soon as well maybe for storage and video solutions - makes sense what with all the cloud offerings bartering for that little disposable income payment each month.

2. plugin support (would love to port some moveabletype ones)
i do miss plugins from having a moveabletype/wordpress blog as some fantastically useful plugins exist on those platforms but for some reason the added problem of hosting the site, maintaining the cms system and having plugins work with each other has at times been a pain. sounds like i'm talking myself out of plugins here for a moment but i'm not, some of the SEO ones would be very useful to get a bit more optimisation going on that front. i would definitely look at making a rezpondr api plugin for videos as that is the way i want to take rezpondr. a series of fixed format themes and widgets you can buy for your blogging platform whatever it maybe.

3. autolink support for keywords
i would love the ability to have word replacement changed to urls. for instance if i type 'rezpondr' i would like it to automatically scan my sent post and auto replace any keywords i have put in the autolink manager. you could probably do this for tagging as well. set a flag that if it finds that word use it as a tag. that would be very useful for a mobile media maker on the road to have the autotagging done for him based on keywords that he/she might use often.

4. moveabletype importer script needs some work - some posts only titles bought in
i have some problems with the moveabletype importer at the moment, some of the blogposts i bought in from my MT blog only have the titles on them instead of the complete blogpost. i'm presume it is because of the editor that i used when i wrote them and i guess that the importer code is quite simple in scanning for what it can import. hoping they look at it and fix it. i sent them my exported .txt file from moveabletype so i hope they take a look.

5. stumbleupon or su.pr api support for tracking the shorturl
i'm sure this will be something that will be opened up when they bolt an api on the side of posterous but i would really like to use stumbleupon/su.pr for my links instead of the post.ly address so i can track my links a little better. or, just give me analytics on my links - i'm sure that is something they are tracking but just have no linked up to the admin yet.

6. ping.fm support
would make perfect sense to support ping.fm via their api as another destination and target - i have a whole bunch of sites wired up in there and being able to fire them to those sites in one go via a post would be very useful. got to have a think about all these 1click to post everywhere sites, i need to have a variety of ways i can setup each service as backups for when i am mobile so that it can have multiple entry paths without causing duplication.

What things would you like to see on posterous?
