I'm no PETA fan but this was too goofy to pass up...

I thought the above image was an interesting exercise in perspective. You hear environmentalists ranting about gas guzzling SUVs and lobbying for higher emission and gas mileage standards, but you don't see them going around murdering dogs left and right. Well, at least not yet.

However, I'm not sure I completely agree with the methodology used here. 10,000 kilometers is a little over 6,200 miles. That's not exactly average use, at least not here in the United States. But even if you double the annual driving distance, the carbon footprint is still less than that of a medium-sized dog.

I think the one thing we can be sure of is this: We are on the eve of an epic battle between PETA and Greenpeace. It will be bloody. There will be many casualties. And when the dust settles after the storm, there will be a lot less smelly people getting up in your face trying to get you to sign something when you walk out of Whole Foods.

This study also proves the superiority of cats. This has been known by most digital natives for some time though. Lolcats over Faildogs any day of the week. Twice on Caturday.

Does this "racy" Pamela Anderson PETA ad set animal rights back 10 years?

"PETA seems to be under the impression that "any publicity is good publicity", a mistake that has made them a worldwide laughingstock."

This ad, starring Pamela Anderson and generally described as "racy," feeds the unfortunate impression of animal rights activists as enemies of human freedom

So in yet another semi-nudity-fueled, celebrity-filled racy outing, PETA's (UK) got Pamela Anderson and Steve-O in a new commercial (video, really) hyping the cause groups anti-everything stance regarding animals and whether or not any part of them should be considered wearable.

"Ask the experimenters why they experiment on animals, and the answer is: 'Because the animals are like us.' Ask the experimenters why it is morally OK to experiment on animals, and the answer is: 'Because the animals are not like us.' Animal experimentation rests on a logical contradiction." -Professor Charles R. Magel

As many as 115 million animals are experimented on and killed in laboratories in the U.S. every year. Much of the experimentation-including pumping chemicals into rats' stomachs, hacking muscle tissue from dogs' thighs, and putting baby monkeys in isolation chambers far from their mothers-is paid for by you, the American taxpayer and consumer, yet you can't visit a laboratory and see how the government has spent your money. You can't even get an accurate count on the number of animals killed every year because experimenters and the government have decided that mice and rats and certain other animals don't even have to be counted.

Animal experimentation is a multibillion-dollar industry fueled by massive public funding and involving a complex web of corporate, government, and university laboratories, cage and food manufacturers, and animal breeders, dealers, and transporters. The industry and its people profit because animals, who cannot defend themselves against abuse, are legally imprisoned and exploited.

Fortunately for animals in laboratories, there are people who care. Some of them work in labs, and when they witness abuse, they call PETA. Thanks to these courageous whistleblowers, PETA's undercover investigators and caseworkers, who sift through reams of scientific and government documents, have exposed what goes on behind laboratory doors.

Unhappy Meals" featuring a knife-wielding Ronald McDonald and bloody rubber chickens are upsetting parents who say the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are unfairly targeting their kids at McDonald's restaurants across the country.

PETA's "McCruelty Campaign" has ruffled the feathers of moms and dads in Albany who say they don't want their kids exposed to any throat-slitting chickens or pictures of slaughtered poultry.
