Roscoe Ellis says...

That big sleep I was hoping for last night? Ha! Never happened!

All that turkey I ate Wed. evening woke me at 05:30 after only 3 hours of sleep with gut woes. Darn. Antacid tablets calmed the stomach but there was no more sleep to be found. At least, there hasn't been yet.

An upside of this: I'm catching CBS coverage of Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The downside of that: God, that no-name "comedian" CBS has street-hosting the parade is a pathetic bore. Oh well...

A New Trend says...

I've lived in NYC for over 12 years now and have been here for 3 of the World Series Champions, but not once did I make it to the ticker tape parade. This year there was not going to be an excuse or way out of it, besides my job was only blocks away and half the folks at work went. These are a selective few photos from that day.

On Friday, November 6 I joined 2 million Yankees fans in lower Manhattan to watch the parade in the Canyon of Heroes.

A beautiful clear blue sky was visible where we joined to celebrate the victors of America's favorite pasttime:

While I viewed the parade on the packed sidewalk, others viewed it where they could:

And even from their office windows:

There is nothing like ticker tape in autumn:

You want to see the players. Here are some of the Boys of Summer. Joba!

CC!

Johnny...

Future Hall-of-Famer Mo:

A-Rod and friends:

And finally, the captain, Der-ek Je-ter! Der-ek Je-ter!

A beautiful day, joining with the millions who stayed out of school or called in sick to witness the parade. New York, New York!

Mr. Mardi Gras promises to toss out lots of treats Saturday when the Krewe of Boo rolls for the second year, and tourism industry leaders says the trick for them is to cash in on the growing popularity of Halloween in New Orleans.

What an amazing morning. The grand parade was a totally awesome event, full of colour, lively music and amazingly creative costumes.  Well done everyone. The week isn't over yet though. Classes are still completing fun activities and visiting year group areas. And this afternoon is our end-of-activity-week assembly with a complete round-up of the week.

Every year the high school in my neighborhood has a spirit parade right through the middle of my subdivision.

I have lived in this neighborhood by the airport for nine years. I have always meant to take pictures but always feel like such a perv taking pix of kids but since I was not the only one with a camera in the crowd tonight, I snapped away.

Ahh to be a kid again.

Pix are here.

5 Stars out 5.

This is our Green theme anthem. You will need to know this for the parade on Friday...so get practising. The backing track is below the words.

We are the Champions (Green version)

We’re ‘Going Green’,
To pay our dues.
To save the planet…
No time to lose.
We’ve made mistakes,
More than a few.
We’ve wasted our world’s precious treasures But
we’ll come through!

Chorus
We are the champions – my friends.
We’ll keep on trying till the end.
We are the champions,
We are the champions,
Time for re-using
‘Cause we are the champions of the world.

We’re recycling cans
And newspers galore,
Thinking of forests and endangered species –
And a whÓle lot more!
It’s no bed of roses
No pleasure cruise
It’s a challenge for the whole human race We’re not
going to lose!

We are the champions – my friends.
We’ll keep on trying till the end.
We are the champions,
We are the champions,
Time for re-using
‘Cause we are the champions of the world.

In celebrating 60 years of Communist rule, China trotted out all the flags and formed satellite art for the world to see. Impressive and scary at the same time. Of course I'm the type person that, when asked to march in a straight line, curls up on the sidewalk and goes to sleep until the nightmare ends. I guess they're trying to redefine what the world thinks when the name Tiananmen Square comes to mind. 39 pics in total here.
