This is one of those amazing documentaries that everyone MUST watch. When I heard Madonna was involved in a humanitarian documentary film in Africa (called I Am Because We Are), I put Madonna + Malawi together and my first thoughts were that it had something to do with the adoption controversy back in 2006 and that this film was some sort of a an attempt to subdue the negativity surrounding that. However, after watching the film and admittedly knowing very little about what all the fuss was about back then (vague memories of the adopted child’s father crying foul), I couldn't have been more wrong. This film is unbelievable, emotionally charged and brilliant, Madonna used her name and celebrity to bring a humanitarian crisis to the world's attention, supported by the incredible photography work of *Kristen Ashburn. This is a film that prompts action, the images and the stories of the children in this film make it difficult for even the sternest of hearts to ignore. My wife and I felt compelled to do whatever we could to raise awareness of this and prompt action in others. You can help too by visiting: http://www.iambecauseweare.com/
*I later contacted Kristen Ashburn to get some tips on how I could add to her efforts in documenting the lives of people affected by HIV/AIDS in Southern Africa. She gladly shared some tips and encouragement.
I'd love to know what you thought of the film so leave a comment below :-)
