We could stand in front of him or to his side but not behind him (because the North Koreans just might open their door and snatch you). Or so they told us at.

With the look on the faces of all the soldiers we saw, they take it very seriously too. So we did as told. (Okay, maybe not the Japanese tourists...)

Feeling nervous about where we were, we quickly turned back toward China. Midway across the ice, we heard yelling. We looked back and saw two North Korean soldiers with rifles running toward us. Instinctively, we ran.

Predictably, both Russia and the United States have portrayed the recent summit in Moscow as a success.

"In this handout image provided by Getty Images for Shangri-La, the plane carrying journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee arrives on the tarmac at Hangar 25 on August 5, 2009 in Burbank, California after being released by North Korean authorities yesterday. Ling and Lee, of San Francisco based Current TV, were both arrested by North Korea in March for illegally entering the country on the Chinese border. Yesterday they were pardoned by President Kim Jong-Il after a meeting with former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Ling and Lee had been sentenced to 12 years in prison in June."

I know some people will say that we kowtowed to North Korea on this one; giving them attention when that's all they were looking for and that they're always going to need more...that this will not stop them from doing anything.

In my mind, we saved the lives of two individuals in the present and that's all that matters.
