I have to be honest I'm not really big on social music and yes I only listened to this song because Nas was featured on it and the title caught my eye. After listening to it though I had a different feeling about soul music like I could really listen to it and maybe learn something. It's very "soulful" as it was said on TheLIfeFIles. Hopefully you enjoy the song as much as I did.

Yesterday I reflected on an interesting (at least to me) difference between the NASB and the ESV in a particular passage. Today, I will show some differences between the current NASB (NASB95) and the 1971 NASB, as well as differences between the current NASB95 and several translations. From here on is taken from the Lockman Foundation web site, except my comments in BOLD.
How does the Updated NASB compare with the original NASB?
Updated NASB = red underline text
NASB Original = blue cross-through text
Ex. 15:7 "And in the greatness of ThineYour excellenceThou dost Youoverthrow those who rise up against Thee You; Thou dost You send forth Thy Your burning anger, and it consumes them as chaff.
Is. 35:6 Then the lame will leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb mute will shout for joy.
Matt. 1:19 And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her, desired to put planned to sendher away secretly.
1 Cor. 9:27 but I buffet discipline my body and make it my slave, lest possibly so that, after I have preached to others, I myself should will not be disqualified.
Rev. 1:13 and in the middle of the lampstands I saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His breast chest with a golden girdle sash.
Rev. 16:5 And I heard the angel of the waters saying, "Righteous art Thou are You, who art are and who wast were, O Holy One, because Thou didst judge You judged these things;
Those seem like very good updates to me. But how does the NASB95 compare with other modern translations? Actually at their site they compare more than with the ESV and NIV, but for brevity that is all I will uses here.

Anyone wonder why the striking difference in this last comparison from Matt. 16"19?
In the worship service today the word was read from Acts 21. When we came to verses 30ff I noticed something interesting. The ESV translated as follows: 30 Then all the city was stirred up, and the people ran together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple, and at once the gates were shut. 31 And as they were seeking to kill him, word came to the tribune of the cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion. 32 He at once took soldiers and centurions and ran down to them. And when they saw the tribune and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul. 33 Then the tribune came up and arrested him and ordered him to be bound with two chains. He inquired who he was and what he had done.
I was reading along in the NAS (an older version) and noticed how different it was:Hmmm. I checked the word out in my reverse interlinear and a Greek lexicon. Here is what I found. The word translated tribune (ESV) and commander (NAS) is χιλίαρχον. Gingrich and Danker's Shorter Lexicon defines the word as "military tribune, commander of a cohort, about 600 men, roughly equivalent to a major or colonel."
But why would the ESV translate it as "tribune?" Well Webster helps us understand. Tribune: "a Roman official under the monarchy and the republic with the function of protecting the plebeian citizen from arbitrary action by the patrician magistrates" As we read here and on in the passage and into the next chapter it becomes apparent that this "tribune" or "commander" was doing what he was supposed to. He extricated Paul from the mob to determine what was going on.
But still, why actually use "tribune" these days? Why not commander? Who knows and/or even uses "tribune" unless we're referring to The Chicago Tribune? I think the ESV would have been more helpful here to follow the NAS in this case.
The new Synology DSM 2.2 firmware permits (among many other new features) to use your NAS as a Time Machine destination to store Mac OS X backups. Here's how to configure it:
As with any Time Capsule appliance, perform your first full backup over a wired link. It will take some time. Afterward, incremental backups are no problem over WiFi.
