I’ve got a buddy who is working at the library. He’s in high school, and he’s a baseball player so I did not pin him for this job. My wife went up there the other day, and he was working. She asked him a question when she was there, and he had no idea. Basically, he said that whenever anyone asks him a question, he shrugs and points them to someone at the desk.
What I think was hilarious is that when he was hired, they asked him if he liked Anime. Thinking that he wouldn’t get the job, he responded, “....uh....yeah, I love Anime.” He knows absolutely nothing about Manga or anything else. So, when some kid walks in with a Naruto headband looking for a Naruto uncut DVD, my friend, the resident expert, will have no clue. I think that’s funny. Anime is as foreign to him as a construction worker with this.
Regardless, the job pays $9 an hour, which is very good for a high school student. All you really have to do is stock stuff and not talk. Not too hard. I love the way our library is set up because you can order anything from the entire Cincinnati Library database, and they’ll ship it to your branch. Setting it up like that keeps my friend busy. Who knows, maybe one day, he’ll actually read one of the books!
