When faced with a decision that requires some thought, I go to my board of advisors because, based on their various experiences and expertise, I'm given a variety of answers to choose from.
For example, several months ago I was faced with a dilemma. The company I ordered my packaging from had changed the tins on me and now instead of a flat lid, the lid was raised. This meant I could not longer use my labels. I was stuck with an order of 100 tins and had to make a decision, so I went with my "What Would You Do?" question and imagined what each of my imaginary board members would do:What I did: I knew I couldn't use the tins, and I was hoping to get some money back. I called the packaging company and told them of my dilemma. Without needing to even ask, they promised to return my money, shipping included, and had a truck over the next day to pick up my tins. Because of their excellent customer service, I still use them for my other packaging needs, and I recommend them to others.
Special thanks to Get-it-Done-Guy's Stever Robbins for his podcast episode of Give Yourself Good Advice, for giving me the impetus to put this together. Stever, if you were on my board, what would you advise?
