Pogoplug have announced their second-generation device, and it aims to build on the usability of the original multimedia sharing brick. As well as a new hardware design, with four USB 2.0 ports versus the first-gen model’s single port, there’s also new software with better integration with social media and online galleries such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. The core concept, however, remains the same: a sixty-second setup, basically amounting to plugging in at least one hard-drive, an ethernet connection and power, and registering the Pogoplug serial number to a free account online.

"The company expect the second-gen Pogoplug to ship in time for the 2009 holidays, and are taking pre-orders now with an MRSP of $129; there are no ongoing service fees." ... more details, pics at link

Thanks Apple, for actually reading bug reports. This fixes an number of issue with iTunes. Also added new things. But many of the fixes are what interest me, to write about it.

Here is the short list of fixes and improvements.

iTunes 9.0.2 adds support for Apple TV software version 3.0, adds an option for a dark background for Grid View, and improves support for accessibility.

iTunes 9 comes with many new features and improvements, including:

• An improved look and feel, including a new Column Browser for easily browsing your artists or albums, movies, TV shows, and more.

• iTunes Store has a brand new look, with improved navigation for quick and easy exploration.

• iTunes LP and iTunes Extras create unique experiences that feature exclusive interviews, videos, photos, and more — available with select album and movie purchases on the iTunes Store.

• Home Sharing helps you manage your family's iTunes collection between computers in your home. iTunes can automatically transfer new purchases, or you can choose just the items you want.

• Genius Mixes are created for you by iTunes and play songs from your library that go great together.

• iPod and iPhone syncing now allows you to organize your iPhone and iPod touch home screens directly in iTunes. Syncing is now also more flexible, allowing you to sync individual artists, genres, or TV show and Podcast episodes.

• iTunes U items are now organized into their own section in your iTunes library.

• Sync with iPod nano (5th generation), iPod classic (Fall 2009), and iPod touch (Fall 2009).

• iTunes 9 also includes many other improvements, such as HE-AAC encoding and playback, more flexibility with Smart Playlists rules, simpler organization of your media files inside an iTunes Media folder, and more.

Check software update for the upgrade.

I'm just throwing this one out into the void and hope that someone hears... and jumps on it.  No soapbox should be required for this one, it sells itself!

I would like to see a new iteration on the Boom Box.  Actually, I guess I'm thinking something that doesn't necessarily have to be ultra-portable but, hey, it's your product.  Now make it for me!!

What I'm envisioning is a media player that I can program to:

1) Pick up a wifi signal (such as my encrypted home wifi; will need to enter passwords)

2) I can program to stream from my favorite video websites like You Tube, BNN.ca, TED, Daily Show, etc.

Yes, I can do all this from my desktop and laptop.  Yes, I could move my laptop into the kitchen when I'm making dinner; but for as much as the laptop is portable, I don't find it practical sometimes to cart around for my media.  I would pay for a separate device that was always there (in the kitchen).

Help me out consumer electronics guys.  It's a big world, there's room.

Thanks in advance.

"While Microsoft is busy releasing the Zune HD today, Archos also pushed out its Archos 5 Internet Media Tablet on Amazon.com. It might not be the redemption of a formerly flailing brand, though it is possibly a bit more interesting that the Zune HD. While the Zune HD is being pushed as a major iPod competitor, the Archos 5 is being pushed as an Internet tablet that also has a wide range of media capabilities." ... more info at link

"It's no big secret that NVIDIA's potent Tegra chip will be powering Microsoft's forthcoming Zune HD, but up until now, the former company had been rather quiet about its involvement in the project. Just a few days after the OLED-equipped portable media player went up for pre-order around the web, NVIDIA has stepped in to affirm that its own Tegra processor will be "providing the multimedia muscle in Zune HD." ... details at link

A Zune HD demo. This product will be a serious competitor to the Ipod considering the resposiveness, slick design and the UI. Zune HD is a music and HD players and most consumers are asking the question "will it have its won apps store like the ipod". Will Zune HD be enough to tempt apple loyal fans? I think it will if people are open minded and do not disregard it just because its a Microsoft product.

Will you be replacing your Ipod with a Zune HD when it is finally released?
