How to use past tense

Here in malaysia if you want to use convert anything to past tense its dead simple. Use the phrase "Last time" in front of of any sentence. Please note that this refers not only to the actual last time you did something but any event in the past can be referenced using this phrase

eg:  I am learning algebra now. (Say this was many years ago).

when converted to Malaysian English past tense referenced today would read:

Last time, i am learning algebra. ..

We visited the twin towers yesterday and our hotel is close to the  Putra World Trade Centre. Enough said. The towers look spectacular at night. Today we visited the orchid gardens and had a wander.

We took a bus out of Singapore into Malaysia. The highway was great, multiple lanes of good road for hours. We spent last night and will spend tonight in Melaka as it's known locally.

Malacca is also situated roughly two-thirds of the way down the west coast, 148 km south of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia and 245 km north of Singapore and commands a central position on the Straits of Malacca.

Tomorrow we will head into central KL for one night before spending a night out near the airport (80+km away) to catch an early morning flight to Hanoi in northern Vietnam.

AUGUST 2005

Last night I took an overnight bus from Kuala Lumpur to the North East. I was the only foreigner, not only on the bus, but waiting in the whole bus station. My bus was an hour late, no one would tell me what was going on, it finally arrived and was the crappiest bus I've ever seen. Metal arm rests were the only midly luxurious thing. So we left at 10.20pm, stopped at 3am to change buses, and then stopped again at 6.30am. I stood around for about 10 minutes half asleep, dirty and completely dazed with cramp, until I realised that we had arrived. Then had to wait half an hour for the guy at the hostel to wake up and give me a room.

Somehow managed to sleep until one in a box room wirth a fan that barely works and no window. It is about 38 degrees here and full humidty, hence I haven't done much. But there is a pizza hut opposite! yeah, I would never noramlly go to one at home, but the neon lights are beckoning...

Also had a scary run in with a moth almost the size of my face....!!!

Anyway.... apart from these expected joys of travelling, I am well and looking forward to tomorrow where I'm off to a beautiful island, where I'll hopefully make some friends, sigh sigh!

AUGUST 2005

Naively I was expecting savages to be running around everywhere! Not quite like that, but Borneo is still fantastic. I stayed at Uncle Tans' a sort of backpackers jungle camp. As wonderful as it was, I hope there aren't too many others set up now - lets keep the jungle as its meant to be as much as possible.

Email from my trip:

I have spent nearly 2 weeks now in Asia, had a few days of feeling homesick and a bit weird but am fully enjoying it now. Singapore wasn't that interseting unless you can shop which I couldn't. And very hot 36-40 and especailly humid there. I left the next day and took a 7 hour train journey to KL which seemed much more interesting. Went up the KL tower at sunset and saw an amazing view of the city and the Petronas towers.

It all got really intersrting when I arrived in Borneo where I have seen some amazing contrasts. I spent 2 nights in the jungle, believe me that was enough (smelly hole in the ground for a loo and a bucket with brown water as a shower) It was great fun though, we went on river safaris and saw Probiscus monkeys, crocodiles and hornbills.

The next night I spent in the south east of Sabah where I shared a hotel from with a Canadian girl for 3 pounds each. Hot shower and clean bed, we were in heaven. That is until I took out my dirty washing and out flopped a centipede the length of my forearm. It disappeared behind the bed only to re-emerge inside the Canadian girls bed as she was getting into it! She was less than amused, although I thought it was a little unfair to balme me!

I spent the next 2 days snorkeeling of Sipadan island, one of the best spots in the world and swam next to enormous turtles. The island I stayed out wins out hands down as the most beautiful island I'bve ever been to. White sandy beaches, palm trees, blue green waters and houses on stilts into the water (where I stayed) I was a bit dubious about going there as some tourists were kidnapped 5 yrs ago, but apart from a sunburnt back, all is well. The sun is very strong, but also my malaria pills make you extra sensitive, so will try to be very careful from now on.

I am spending tonight with a scottish girl in Sandakan, we've found a great bakery called the Apple Cake Shop and sells every cake imaginable, except apple cake!! Tomorrow I fly back late evening to KL where I am staying at a luxurious 4 star hotel - my leaving present from old job (can't wait!) Then its an overnight train to the Perentian Islands, north east of Malaysia for a few days r n r and more snorkelling - jealous yet???!!!
