Mike Arrington, Robert Scoble, Kevin Marks, Steve Gillmor, Doc Searls,
Dan Farber,

The usual crazy unedited bad audio is enhanced by Arrington's percussion.

Mike thinks Magic Jack is cool, plans to use it in Paris to route his
cell phones over IP.

No brillent insights or conclusions about Comcast (just, watch out for
monopoly bullying).

Windows 7 adobtion is off the hook, that brings Silverlight more into
mainstream. Everyone likes the Photosynth overlays on maps, but don't
like that Silverlight is not available for iPhone, Android or Chrome
OS.

Steve thinks Chrome OS is a broken plugin. Mike thinks the purpose for
Chrome OS is to be preinstalled on "weird hardware being built in
Singapore".

Splitting development between Silverlight and HTML is causing higher
costs, longer development times for projects. Doc has no problem with
Silverlight or AIR, except they don't work well. If third parties
could improve on it, great, but, Microsoft or Adobe don't allow.

Kevin says Silverlight not being open source makes it less agile. Is
Chrome OS more open than Silverlight? Chrome OS does not have on it
now. Silverlight could be bundled on an Chrome OS distribution, but it
might not be able to be call it Chrome OS.

Doc sees major disruptive technologies for voice, major disruptures
need to decide what they want the telecos to do. They won't be going
away. Switch to all IP network is bigger than any technology shift any
Administration has attempted.

Google Voice where phone number is an identity which can be used from
any device. This is major disruption to telecos. Ribbit, Skype, Google
Voice. Government needs to insure that these are not blocked.

Robert says he's not sold on Silverlight.

H264 is dominate on mobiles. Moonlight will convert Silverlight for all devices.

HTML 5, Silverlight, Chrome OS are competing and that's good.

Next week, the Gang will convene with some members joining the feed from Le Web.

Little surprise for those in Paris next week. AppsFire will hold along with GigaOM a meetup in Paris 1 day before LeWeb, our partner for the App Star Awards. Om Malik is attending the conference and he had the awesome idea of this meetup.

The meetup will take place in the awesome offices of FaberNovel (thanks to Stephane Distinguin for the generous offer)

It will take place between 2-4pm Paris. Places are limited (40 max). So if interested please drop Om Malik an email (om+tips at gigaom dot com) or send Om a tweet (@om)

Last week we have been keeping you on the edge, about a Massive New Zealand first, Social Media and Tech News...So... Without further adue, we can confidently confirm that Social Media NZ will be attending LeWeb in France on December the 9th to the10th, It's Europe's #1 Social Media and Tech Event, and from our research of the participants around the world, we can confidently say again we will be the sole representative from New Zealand. Simply imagine this, the best of Silicon Valley minds and the Best european minds in S.M and Technology in one venue

What is LeWeb ?

LeWeb is Europe's biggest Social Media and Technology conference. Simply, any organization who is a leader in the technology sector is going to be there. The speaker list includes Michael Arrington from TechCrunch, Jack Dorsey from Twitter, Marissa Mayer from Google, Tony Hsieh from Zappos, blogger Robert Scoble, and so many more! There are over 70 speakers, all of which are leaders in the technology industry. Over 2000 people from 40 different countries are expected to attend. The theme for 2009 is "Real Time Web" which is very appropriate considering the release of services such as Google Wave this year.

What we could expect at the two day conference ? Below is a video by Loic of http://www.loiclemeur.com/ explaining what could be expected...

We Would like to say it's an honor to represent NZ in this conference, and as well as bringing much treasured knowledge, trends, and happenings in the social media and Tech World back for all, and it will be much needed for New Zealand to move forward in these sectors. We would also like to thank Michael Moore-Jones who will be representing Social Media NZ at this Conference, What would you expect from us at these conferences ? Interviews with brilliant minds from both the Social Media and Tech World, Daily Vlogs and updates about the Event.

We are very excited about the conference as well as the knowledge we will bring back with us to share with New Zealand.

We got probably the best spot [right after the 1st panel with Twitter founder Jack Dorsey on Day 1] to present the 3 winners of the App Star Awards at LeWeb conference on stage, in front of more than 1800 top savvy internet users, bloggers, journalists and more with live streaming.

I don't know. But if i was about to release an iPhone app, i would not think twice and i would rush to submit my app

I've just discovered the video made by Geraldine and Loïc to announce LeWeb09 program and give us some input about the theme - Real Time Web -, the content and a last update on speaker list. It looks like it's gonna be awesome again this year.

Of course I'll be there and most of my friends or my business partners too... According to the experience I had the last 3 years, LeWeb is the most inspiring Conference in Europe for our industry and a MustBeThere. It's also a great place and event for networking and meeting all the friends around the world you're just skyping or twitting all year long.

By the way, there will be state-of-the-art debates about iPhone, Android and other OS Apps... and of course, as I'm the co-founder of Labotec, this is one of the most exciting part of my own program !! :-)

If you plan to attend LeWeb09 and wanna talk, feel free to ping me.

I'll be more than happy to meet you for sharing ideas and/or to introduce you to some of my friends if it makes sense for both you and them and/or just share a Nespresso coffee with you... This is what networking and LeWeb is all about too ;-)

I can't believe I missed this last night! Loic, next time maybe...

Loic has once again rattled the PR and marketing cages, with good reason and also, good intentions. Last night he presented, along with Guy Kawasaki, Louis Gray, Renee Blodget and Steve Patrizi from LinkedIn, on the state and future of PR, marketing, and advertising.

Loic and I are good friends and our public discussions and debates are healthy, educational, and beneficial for all those in marketing as well as those entrepreneurs and brands seeking presence, community, and influence.

Putting the Public Back in Public Relations

Loic shared his thoughts and advice in his event wrapup post. Give it a read when you get a chance and let me know what do you think...

Why Marketing, PR and Advertising suck for me

- I do not trust any advertising message or press release, they are generally fake. They are all designed to tell a story about a product or a company which is one sided, it only has the good aspects and they are not neutral. They can be interesting at times when there is news obviously, but even then, much less than what your friends think about it or what the sources you trust, which includes the press and blogs, say about it.

- Many bad practice examples that I experienced myself made me not trust many people working as so called PR experts

Only in the recent weeks there were plenty of examples of PR firms cheating by writing fake iphone apps reviews paying interns to leave them, or sending stupid pitches. Most of them are basically standard messages and one time I even got one where they sent an email to me instead of a Wired reporter, with the Dear <insert the name of the wired reporter here> instead of mine.
