And yet more good reviews come in for 'Proper Horror Show', Prince Kong's quintessential dosage of dub grime nastiness.

From Boomkat.com...

What do you get if you cross the DJ Producer with Diplo and The Bug? Maybe something close to Prince Kong on 'Proper Horror Show'. After a couple of storm-troopin ragga cuts for Alphabet Set and !Kaboogie Records he's made an even more uncompromising effort for the newly minted Ghetto Quietly label, reeling between bushwacka Ragga-gabber on 'Angsta' feat Jah Balance, to hyper-Soca rinseouts featuring MC Quilombola on 'Whailt' and 'Cazz'. It's fair to say there's not really owt around like this so it's the finest example of this style that you're going to find.

... and Kong also has several other releases on the go at present.

This is what the nice chaps at Wire magazine had to say about one of these in the October '09 edition...

"Cool single mixing classic reggae topping with a screwed up industrial underlayer. The tension between the forces is hypnotic."

Proper Horror Show is available as download and 2x12 inch vinyl from all good stores.

  • made a rough draft for the CD label

As a child, my family would go camping 5 or 6 times each summer for weekends. We'd haul the camper behind the Oldsmobile for hours until we found a spot that that had an arcade and vending machines... after all, there's gotta be something for the kids to do that didn't involve "nature" stuff.

One of the things I started to do was collect beer bottles. I was nowhere near old enough to drink yet, but I would raid campsites all over Ontario and try to focus on license plates that were from out of province. Sometimes I'd trade so as not to rip someone off of ten cents. Other times I'd just sneak onto their campsite late and abscond with a forgotten empty laying on the grass around the fire.

In yet another walk down memory lane, I offer up pictures of many of the stubbies in my collection. I wish I could take the credit for the pictures, but they come from a site I heartily recommend you visit - www.Stubby.ca  Go there for a few hundred pictures of timeless bottles from all over Canada. Seriously, go there now!

Even if you're from nowhere near the Great White North, perhaps you can find something in the design aspects of some genuine works of art that were the beer labels of the 70s and 80s.

BTW, I'm not even start on my collection of some of the US stubbies I have... after all, when I lifted them from cross-border travelers I may have run the risk of causing an international incident and I don't know what the statute of limitations is on Stubby Theft.

MMR's new sister label Ghetto Quietly launches in Dublin this weekend with a rock solid line up of Prince Kong, Bluefood and A-Force peddling their sonic wares along with various MCs.

Prince Kong's 'Proper Horror Show' on 2 x 12 inch vinyl will be the label's first release and expect much of the material from this release to feature in Kong's set.

Dublin based Ghetto Quietly will concentrate on limited runs of vinyl for local artists... thus far: Prince Kong, Bluefood and A-Force. Expect GQ vinyls to coincide roughly with MMR digital download releases for these Irish artists.

Perhaps not so much a sister label as a bastard cousin.. the one your Mom never wanted you to hang out with as they were from the wrong side of the tracks!
