Although his work is largely unknown outside Europe and Japan, John Körmeling is one of the most inspiring contemporary Dutch artist-architects. His interdisciplinary strategies investigate how many people negotiate the complexities of public/private life to ultimately expand the range of creative solutions through art, architecture, design and city planning.

The work is as diverse as the artist himself – a large light sculpture, comic strip-like drawings with plays on words and images, sketches of practical and impractical structures, scale models and unconventional solutions to spacial planning problems.

Behind this diversity is an artist who is waging a war against the narrow-mindedness of our overly organised society. His warfare is of the happy kind – humour proves to be an effective weapon.
