"Passengers on a Batavia Air plane scheduled to fly from Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport to Surabaya were sent into panic when they saw smoke coming out of the back of their plane before their scheduled takeoff on Thursday morning.

Batavia Air Corporate Secretary, Edi Haryanto told the Jakarta Globe that the passengers were panic stricken and forcefully opened the emergency door.

“They opened the emergency exit and came out of the plane using the slide,” Edi said.

Edi said that the smoke coming out of the engine was an ordinary occurance during the process to prepare for take-off.

“It’s just an ordinary thing,” he said."

It is not a new movie trailer, It was an incident which happened this morning at my home, my second son was sleeping in the bedroom, I just stepped out of the attached bath room of my bedroom, all I could hear is glass shattering scream from the hall and it sounded like my elder son, my wife who was in the kitchen, cooking ran towards the hall.

At first, I thought it was some kind of prank, Yes he does often. But this one sounded little odd. And the multiple screams did make my wife's leg shake in fear, Neither she didn't understand what was going on.

I wasn't wearing my powered glasses but did see some black kind of thing moving just around the corner of my bedroom. I was bit worried for my sleeping second son, I didn't panic.

Still the screaming was going on, my wife inquiring for reason. I started to laugh and my second son woke up.

I had nothing to worry, It was a god damn squirrel, After 3 long days of rain, which just stopped and I believe it was in search for food. Happen to smell some thing from the Kitchen, After hearing my elder son screaming, The squirrel panicked, ran helter skeltor and then entered the bedroom for safety.

Gosh, It was one hell of a drama this morning. By the way the squirrel is still around my bedroom, I guess he wants to setup a sweet home on my bedroom loft.

Here are some photos of the after rain math.

Half of those involved in this were private individuals. But half were linked with the state.

One wet fall day in Atlanta a good friend of mine an I got to talking politics. This was shortly after Bush beat Cary. The conversation got quite heated and he did not realize he was half wheeling me until his handlebar went into my back wheel and we both feel to the ground going 20+ mph.

This aftermath was a cracked Bianchi and a out of true rear wheel(my bike) and some cut bar tape.

Needless to say I replaced the frame and have had this nice carbon frame with a crack in it for years. It has now found a new role in the fleet. It is my SS commuter. Viva la bianchi

At around 9 pm tonight, a tank at Pertamina gas depot at Plumpang North Jakarta exploded causing shockwaves around the area reaching at least as far as 300 meters which include the Gading Kirana housing estate. Residents nearby reported to Metro TV that the explosion felt like an earthquake. The flames went up at least 100 meters high. The tank holds Premium gasoline (88 Octane), which is the lowest yet most common quality gasoline for regular vehicles.

Brandon Hoover, a resident of Gading Kirana stated over Twitter that "The explosion shockwave hit at 9:24pm. Shook front of my house quote powerfully. My home is only 300 meters from explosion. #plumpang"

He broke the news at 9:10 WIB saying, "HUGE explosion near my house. Pertamina gas company has plant begin my complex? Sky red n huge smoke. Can someone watch news?"

He has since evacuated to at least 2 Km away.

According to Ari Firmansyah, a Process Engineer who oversees safety and risk analysis for oil and gas installations, says "The tanks that hold the fuel are atmospheric tanks, unlikely to cause explosions. Suppose there's a leak somewhere, someone light a match or fire source, it would cause a fire in a first place, not explosion. But of course if there's an accumulation of hydrocarbon vapor with delayed ignition... the explosion might be happening."

He also said that, "from experience it could take 21 to 48 hours to put out tank farm fires" using Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF), a chemical solution made to put out gasoline-based fires.

Due to the urgency and speed of Twitter users in Jakarta, updates regarding the Plumpang explosions came in rapidly through Twitter and helped spread the news regarding this incident.

Kukuh Wicaksono calculated that "since the tank holds up to 5000 kiloliters and one mobile refulling unit holds 40 liters, 5 million liters can fill up 125 units. At Rp 4500 per liter, this incident may cost Pertamina at least Rp. 22.5 billion or about US$ 2 million in lost revenue. Should all tanks caught fire, the loss may reach potentially Rp 5 trillion."

That of course provided the tanks are full, which they are not and up to this point only one tank has exploded.

Back in October there were reports of a terrorist plan to blow up Plumpang depot but as of this moment there are no indication whether this was such an act.
