It has frames, pixels, colour, iconography. This is really great work by -roosevelt-, based on Susan Kare's old Mac icons.

I hate presentations with a lot of words. No one reads them. Why bother? I’ve never understood the purpose of filling a slide with a bunch of words that no one is going to read. Most of the time people don’t even look at the words, let alone attempt to read them.

For the past six months I’ve been using PICOL for everything. PICOL (which stands for Pictorial Communication Language, in case you were wondering) is set of over 500 vector icons. It's a free download and you can check it out at picol.org. I’ve used it in decks and animations. I've used it for product labels and logos. I even use it on my resume.

It’s a brilliant resource and a brilliant idea. There's something inherently awesome about trying to create a standard for visual communications. It’s also licensed under the Creative Commons, so you can use it and adapt it however you want to. Because they are all vectors, it’s very easy to combine different icons together.

One of my new goals is to make a presentation that has no words at all. Or perhaps a blog made purely out of pictograms.

Plastic recycling is the process of recovering scrap or waste plastics and reprocessing the material into useful products, sometimes completely different in form from their original state. For instance, this could mean melting down soft drink bottles then casting them as plastic chairs and tables. Icons like these are important as it allows users to indentify the good, bad and OK plastics and where they can be found.

This trend towards verification is attributed to the rise in mandatory national reporting. Companies that join these programs agree to voluntarily reduce their environmental impact beyond what is required by law. In addition, these programs act as a powerful communication tool with consumers and corporate stakeholders, as the perception of the seal on a package denotes authenticity.

Some Japanese brands have redesigned their packaging using contrasting colours (between background and text), making it more user-friendly for its growing aged population. Packages after the makeover look simpler and less clutered, making the texts more visible. Instructions, warnings and contact information have also become larger and more visible.

Simplicity is KEY.

As the average life span increases, more and more senior citizens are utilizing the Internet. As this market expands, web designers, internet retailers and services providers should begin to take this demographics' needs into account.

The small size of the text pages is one of the most often complaint setback. A text resizing tool can play a vital role to ease this issue. A preferable position would typically be at the top of the page.
