Sarah and I made a trip to Target yesterday afternoon to look at a rug we had found online, and to look at some other house decor stuff. At first glance, we didn't think they had it in stock. But, maybe we just forgot what it looked like because it did end up being there, which we were happy to realize. It was the last one in stock, so we mulled over it for a minute, and then decided to go for it - with our Visa gift card in hand. (Visa gift cards at Target are such a great thing) As we were walking to check out, Sarah said "hey this one is a little dirty, I wonder if they might give us a discount since it's the last one". I said well "if you want to be the one to ask...". So, sure enough she asked. We had to wait for a manager, and in the meantime the checker was saying that it just depends and sometimes the managers will give 10% to 15% off, which has happened to me before. A lot of times the checker will just give 10% without asking. The manager finally came along, inuired as to what the situation was, and proceeded to tell the checker to take 20% off! Sarah and I looked at each other, without saying anything, but knew exactly what the other was thinking: "Thank you thank you thank you!"
All that to say, we were prepared to buy the rug, without a discount, because we really do love it. But, just because we asked, we got a discount and that is an awesome thing.
Any idiot can face a crisis. It is this day-to-day living that wears you out.

As far as screen size, a readable 80x25 screen and a regular keyboard so vim works normally is sufficient for on-the-go development. I can get 80x34 tiny, tiny characters on my blackberry now, or half that (or quarter that, depending on how you're counting) with characters that more suit my eyesight. And while developing on it's a non-starter, it's sure come in handy when I've been out and about and needed to fix something (using ssh for access).
