Today's View - dinner, a large fry up. My eyes ended up bigger than my
belly! I couldn't finished but I was great, even if I say so myself -
I cooked it. Hadn't had one in ages. Magic.

Before - tomato, black pudding x 2, fruit pudding x 2, lorne sausage x

I love Nerf guns...some of them are pretty cool looking and they are fun to shoot around the house, especially at the dog...Most people just buy them and mess around with them by adding CO2 to them so they dont have to pump or add higher voltage batteries to shoot faster. But if you have some time and some old PVC tubing laying around you can make this pretty kick ass BOLT ACTION, CLIP FED, FAST ACTION RIFLE!!. Pwn those neighborhood kids with some Nerf sniper action!! and look cool doing it!!

This year, we (me and my family) have decided to do the Christmas decorations ourselves although I am very tempted to just go to the beautiful Christmas Market around the corner from where I live and buy all the gorgeous German decorations!

Why do we want to do homemade decorations? because it will be cheaper, we will spend quality time together as a family in preparation for Christmas, we will have a true sense of achievement and we will enjoy Christmas house even more.

What are we planning to do?

  • Advent wreath
  • Christmas tree decorations
  • Wall and windows decorations
  • Nativity scene
  • Christmas biscuits

So, watch me and my family in our attempt to do all of the above and have a frugal Christmas!

First thing on the Christmas calendar is the Advent wreath which holds 4 candles that you light on each Sunday during the Advent period. First Sunday was yesterday so we spent the weekend making our own Advent wreath out of salt dough following the instructions of a craft French website.

To make the salt dough, just mix 2 glasses of flour with 1 glass of fine salt. Then add 1 glass of warm water and mix until you obtain a dough. I used wholemeal flour so the dough looks darker.

Mould a large piece of foil as a big ring and then cover the ring foil with the dough.

Add some dough decorations on your ring such as leaves. Then form 4 small balls where you insert your 4 candles. These will be the stands for your candles. Add them to your wreath.

Let your wreath dry out all night, then bake it in the oven on a low heat at 160 degrees for around 2 hours. Don't let it bake for too long as the wreath could then crack.

When your wreath has cooled down, you can then paint it or leave it as such and varnish it to get a shiny look. My son was desperate to paint it and my dear man varnished it with hairspray (cheap alternative to varnish).

The only problem we had was that when the wreath was baked, the candles didn't fit anymore in their stands so my dear man had to dig in with a knife so that they could fit again.

And here you go, on the first Sunday of Advent, we could light the first candle of our nice homemade wreath :)

I love to make and feel satisfactions when it is done. The moment that it becomes something from none (even not in my imaginations) is my favorite time. Ofcourse I love a process to make it. I hope people love my works.
