not my homecoming, mind you. i didn't go to Auburn. but i'm a fan.
Tonight, my alumni association had a Homecoming Happy Hour. All Houston area Howard University grads who could not attend the actual celebration in D.C., were invited to relive our college days and celebrate our alma mater (ain't no party like and H.U. party).
Unfortunately, I had to decline a night with my fellow Bison because I had a date with a couple of Pumas. Yes, instead of having an adult night out with my classmates, I chose to spend my evening at my children's school's Fall Festival (also, KayEm had an event at our church, but I sound like a better dad if I don't mention that).
If you are unfamiliar with fall festivals, let me explain. Imagine a carnival. You got it? Now take away all of the cool rides and replace them with inflatable bounce houses. Remember those cool games where you could win a huge stuffed animal? Replace the stuffed animals with Dum-Dums and Tootsie Rolls. And if you take away the yummy fair food and replace it with cold pizza and soggy nachos, you now understand what a public school Fall Festival is like.
Parents buy tickets that the kids can use to play games and purchase food. I only bought 40 tickets ($10.00 worth) because I know what a money suck these festivals can be.
Although we didn't stay very long, the kids had a blast. They ran through an obstacle course, tossed bean bags, hit golf balls, scarfed down cotton candy, and played with their friends and teachers.
Trying to negotiate all of the games and lines was a bit challenging with three kids, but I managed to make it out with my sanity. I think we even got our money's worth. At the end of the night, we walked away with the following items:
But the most valuable thing that I left with was a wonderful experience with my three kids. That memory will always be priceless.
