Went feasting in Shau Kei Wan 筲箕灣 again tonight, this time with my colleagues. Started out at 安利 followed by Indonesian satay and then Mommy's Dessert 甜品老媽. This is a very cute dessert shop on Shau Kei Wan Main Street East 東大街. Mommy here (I took a pic with her) makes beautiful, creative desserts.

We had mango wrapped in coconut which looked a lot like the steamed rolls 腸粉 you have at dim sum. Their speciality is the shaved ice which, unlike normal shaved ice, comes out in millimeter thin sheets, light as a feather! We coconut-chocolate-banana one and a blueberry one (i thought it looked like slices of ham haha). Mommy also does a nice not-too-heavy melt chocolate cake. But the most surprising was the durian-sago-ice, I normally don't eat durian but this was was super fragrant and light!

Don't worry Mommy, i'll come back to visit soon!

Went exploring in TST east today and found quite a few places with alfresco dining. There seems to be more options for dining outdoors these years as hkers lose their fear of the outside. Although most of the patrons at this restaurant were westerners...i think this had more to do with the fact that it was right in the middle of tourist central.

Anyway there were quite a few of these restaurants near Mody Lane facing the Hung Hom bypass highway including Wooloomooloo, Bulldog's, a tapas place and this one La Villa. Each had seating outside facing the road and harbor. Seems like a very chill, casual place to have a meal and some drinks and take advantage of hk's excellent autumn weather.

Will gather up the troops and give it a go later!

On a visit to Elements mall last Sunday, I came accross the Budweiser Waiters' Race. A beautiful day for running around with cups precariously balanced on one hand. Regal Airport hotel managed to beat the likes of Shangri-La and Grand Hyatt. Take that you 5-star stiffs!

Just passed through this festival in soho! They blocked off the roads and are having a street carnival! Have lots of stands selling trinkets, food and wine! Even have live music and clowns! Perfect weather for this sort of thing. Going on all weekend!

I went on a hike yesterday with Mike and his Trailwalker teammates who were training. For those who don't know, Trailwalker is an annual charity hike across Hong Kong's MacLehose trail. The whole thing is 100km and Mike's aiming to finish within 24hrs (good luck to him!). To give you an idea, the winning time is around 11-12 hrs and those crazies RUN the entire distance!

Anyway, we met at 9:00 at Wong Dai Seen MTR and took the minibus to the start of section 5 of the trail. Then it was hiking all the way till the end of section 8 with brief rest stops in between. We passed:

Monkey Hill - there are groups of monkeys hanging out all over looking to snatch food from unsuspecting hikers/weekenders. I almost got attacked twice by them. Their numbers seem to have increased from the last time is was there a few years ago. Remember to hide your Welcome/Park n Shop bags or they will snatch them!

Needle Peak - steepest climb, particularly brutal with the sun beating down on you.

Grass Peak - grass and shrubs all over, a pleasant climb.

Tai Mo Shan - one of the higher peaks in HK with the top usually shrouded in clouds / fog. Can get a bit chilly up there.

A total of about 30km. We were going at a pretty brisk clip and our final time was around 6h45m. When I got home I found a blister on my toe. My shoes were too tight at the tip. Long distance hikers should buy shoes 1-2 sizes bigger than your usual size as your feet will expand as you hike.

A tiring but memorable day!

Last night I went to a quaint little dessert place in taihang 小甜谷. Ordered the Hokkaido milk chocolate pudding, it was silly smooth a was not too sweet with just the right amount of cocoa! The decor was cute but not too fancy. I like the small neighborhood feel, my kind of place. Definately will be back!
