I haven't been able to stop listening to Q-Tip lately. He's got to be
one of my favourite rappers along with Murs, Mos Def and Talib Kweli.

Both The Renaissance and Kamaal the Abstract are on heavy rotation on
my iPod at the moment. Check out his video for Renaissance Rap below.
I've also added another favourite of mine,
Deltron 3030.

New-york ex-cocaine dealer. My guess is that he didn't just sell the dope. Narrating his life on weird textures, this rapper delivers the kind of ambiance that puts me in an even more weird state. Dark, sinister, wonderful. If you happen to dive in, you won't get out that easily. The throbbing rhythms really get a grip on you.

His music is what he cherishes.

what up guys,

for real, i am mad thankful to have ben on this list; the contributions he's made have been amazing.  thanks dude, for hooking me up with your prized shit.  and you know, i know how hard it is to share the prized shit, but i feel like this mixtape is too good to not share!

it's not hip hop in the classic sense at all.  it's definitely hipster hop. no lyricism and no real real meaning.  shallow at best.  but so damn damn damn damn well produced.  it's fucking awesome.  i can listen to this entire album and it'll be a-ok with me.  dope hip hop.  it's fresh and new.  it's not like classic, so let me warn you right now.

but it's dope.  OH SHIT. I WANTED TO SEND OUT TODAY'S SONG AND SO I CHECKED MY EMAILS, AND THIS IS WHAT I PULLED UP.

Kids chiddy bang – no thanks.  No big on this hipster hop.  Liked how he/they chopped up the beat but damn how poppy is this?  This is some wack shit that’s trying to leverage mgmt’s beat.  It sounds ok, not then you hear the verse drop and all of a sudden you realize how fucking lame and shitty they are.  “never pay for a parking meter” or whatever?  That doesn’t make u hard; that makes you a fucking idiot.  So you mean to tell me, you want a parking ticket?  It’s like if u’re gonna be hard, park w/ur windows rolled down and doors unlocked.  This track is fucking poisonous to listen to.if i wanted to impress someone, i'd totally play this one.  ok, since i'm on a pretentious tip, the top things i'd play that i really enjoy and if i wanted to impress someone was:

I'M SUCH AN IDIOT.  BEN, I OWE YOU AN APOLOGY.  WHOOPS.  HAHA.  AT LEAST I ADMIT IT WHEN I'M WRONG.  HOLY MOLY GUACOMOLE, I'M A BIT TOO SELF-RIGHTEOUS.  anyway, i change my mind.  this is a good example of something i've been trying to appreciate for a while ...the entire album.  i love songs.  but i'm trying to get into albums again.  and though that doesn't save me, if i were to judge chiddy bang soley by KIDS (the song that ben sent), then i'd say it was a piece of shit.  but then when i hear the entire album as a piece of work, i can definitely appreciate it.  it's not classic hip hop, but it's too artful to just be rap.

here's the album:

and this is my favorite produced track off the album.  hope you all take a listen to what new hip hop has to offer.  have a good weekend, everyone!

Ghost still got it. Of course he's still got it. Why would you even doubt that?

First Lil' Wayne, now Chris Brown. What is it with these musicians posing with instruments we very well know they can't play???

Until yesterday, I'd never really wondered what sounds would link, say, Organized Noize's hip-hop swing, King Tubby's dub technique and Daft Punk's filtered dancefloor propulsion. Maybe Jason Chung had. At any rate, the L.A. performer, known as Nosaj Thing, produced just such sounds during an impressive show upstairs at Amsterdam's Paradiso. Using a Macbook and an Akai MPD32 controller, Chung was constantly dropping beats and mixing samples, filtering FX and generally laying out some dope music.

Unlike experimental beat scientists of the recent past, like Funkstörung and Prefuse 73, Nosaj Thing is ready for the dancefloor. At least when performing live. He is a product of the fertile beat scene centered in L.A.'s weekly Low End Theory club. His excellent debut album, Drift, came out this Summer. A new US tour starts this week.
