It was a day of wedding bliss, this. Today marked the first Christian wedding that I attended. It was simple, sweet and meaningful. The photograph is of my two good friends and myself holding little bouquets of flowers that we rescued at the end of the wedding. :) After that, a friend and I had dessert and tea at a cafe. Then, I met the lover and we actually made headway in wedding planning! We signed up for a sweet photography studio deal and I'm extremely excited! :)

Holidays have officially started for me and right now, the only things on my agenda are occasional meetings, reading and hopefully lots of visits to the gym! Decided to take a snap of some of the books from my holiday must-reads. Featured here, Boehmer's Colonial and Postcolonial Literature, Selby's Requiem for a Dream (which for some strange reason I'm having quite some difficulty reading), Austen's Pride & Prejudice, Kafka's Complete Stories, Beavoir's The Woman Destroyed (a good friend lent it to me), Murakami's Birthday Stories and Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman (of which I have read only four stories in and I'm completely dazzled) and lastly, a collection of selected poems from Pablo Neruda, Isla Negra. I have so many other books on the to-read list and yet more others on my Wish List. Too many books and way too little time. And this is probably the most hyperlinked post. :) Happy Hols & Happy Reading!

On this American day of gratitude, what are you most grateful for?

I strive to wake up every day making a list of the things I'm grateful for. So I don't think this Thanksgiving day is the only to show gratitude.

I'm grateful that I've acquired the entrepreneurial ability, know-how and confidence to build my business.

I'm grateful to the opportunity of helping other individuals become internet entrepreneurs.

I'm grateful for the thousands of musicians that have entrusted the support and training from my organisation, Insider Music Business.

I'm grateful that my birth in human form allows me the opportunity for spiritual growth.

I'm grateful for my parents, my family, my friends and my loved ones.

I'm grateful to moments and experiences in my life that have made me who I am today.

I realise that when I'm most grateful, and when I'm hanging out with those who are grateful, I live a graceful life.

I've also learnt and understood that one of the most important skills you can have in your life is the "being grateful". If you haven't realised that, I invite you to a challenge of waking up the next 10 days and taking 5 minutes to feel, think and be grateful. You'll thank yourself for doing it.

What are you most grateful for?

I know I'm supposed to be on a strict diet but I watched my carbs today but splurged on a little ice-cream tart at Bakerzin with two of my best female colleagues. That's an icecream tart with scoops of Rum & Raisin ice-cream, Cream Cheese ice-cream and Mango Passionfruit Sorbet. Topped with meringue sticks. It was needless to say, delicious. I felt very guilty after that. Made an appointment with the gym tomorrow so I have absolutely no excuse not to go. If I don't turn up, I'll be penalised on my membership so this is an incentive. Let's see how that goes. :)

I read an article on Mashable that reported that a Canadian woman Nathalie Blanchard loss disability insurance payments as her insurance company no longer believed that she was depressed due to happy photos on Facebook.

I cannot begin to state how unbelievably disgusting and ridiculous this is for several reasons:

1) Although Facebook is a public site, the insurance company should not a have a right to make an insurance determination based on photographs placed in a private photo album online.

2) The insurance company should not be able to deny a mental health claim based on photographs alone instead of an evaluation made by a mental health professional. The insurance company claims that they did so, however the victim and her attorney claim otherwise.

3) However, it does not take a degreed mental health professional to know that most people utilize social media to put their best foot forward. In the same manner that people list skills not weaknesses on a resume is the same manner that most people post positive appearing photographs on Facebook.

4) Photographs do not always reveal what a person feels. Depression has to persist for a period of time and impair functioning, along with other criteria for a diagnosis. A photograph is a beautiful thing…it freezes a moment in time, often special or fun. That moment, however, cannot fully catalogue a mental illness.

5) Furthermore, who can identify a person’s happiness other than that person and a mental health professional? I’ve watched people at beaches and parties, similar to her photographs, who were dying on the inside although smiling and pretending to enjoy themselves around others. Is a bathing suit or Chippendales party the key to happiness and mental health?

Invasion of privacy, inaccurate mental health analysis, and a greater problem of what some people determine to be happiness are the issues at hand. I hope that IBM and her insurer will consider the disgusting precedent they are setting by trying to save a dollar.

Once again, almost forgot to post this up. The weekend went by in a flash and a week of mindless lectures await. Can't say I'm looking forward to it with enthusiasm but at the moment, tons of ice cream with the lover and watching episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm is the best way to welcome the new week. Hooray!

like or love.  at the present love is a strong word that i think should be reserved for a time where it is reciprocated...and that is just where i want to start.  like.

rewind to I think three years ago.  my crush began at some point in 2006, i suppose.  when i was on my way to handle regular afternoon tasks during my longest open spot in my schedule, i was walking down the hall and there he was.  my heart just gave one big thud in my chest like a runner who took off from the finish line and began to sprint headlong.  my stomach flipped and just as he turned his gaze in my direction, i realized i'd slowed my walking pace and I'm gawking at this guy.  *snap*  I come out of my trance, stole another glance by respectfully saying, "hello" as i passed him by.  he cooly replied in kind and i went about my way.  i shook it off then, but following that day i would fumble and screw up my words around him and always seemingly feel light-headed around him.  looking him in his eyes was dangerous because i thought i'd fall in them.  yes, i liked him and still do to this day.   in hindsight i continually denied the fact up until i recently shared my feelings with him.

...i was in denial that i had a crush on him for basically 3 years.

this is my confession.

Almost forgot to take my picture of the day today. Got home after a long while and my darling Jack Russell went nuts over me, running around, wagging his tail, hopping in excitement. It's hard to imagine he's almost ten. He's the sweetest little dog. Even on my worst days, a nuzzle from him makes everything feel perfect. He has that effect on people. :)
