Killer feelings of triumph...and a great game to boot.

Saw it last night and it's amazing. Back when "Dookie" came out who knew that Billie Joe would be such a great songwriter?

Great music (of course), great dancing, great production.

It's at Berkeley Rep through Sunday, if you get a chance, and can get tickets, go!

green day played for a sold-out crowd on october 12th in downtown oslo spektrum. the set list:

main set:
song of the century
21st century breakdown
know your enemy
east jesus nowhere
holiday
the static age
before the lobotomy
are we the waiting
st. jimmy
boulevard of broken dreams
hitchin' a ride
welcome to paradise
when i come around
metal covers
brain stew
jaded
longview
basket case
she
king for a day
shout
21 guns
american eulogy

1st encore:
american idiot
minority

2nd encore:
last night on earth
good riddance

the band played every song like it was their last chance at playing it - ever - and the crowd loved every minute of it. they took fans up on stage, threw them off it, sprayed the crowd with both water and t-shirts and they played hits spanning their whole career.

the only downside to the show for me personally was that the show got kind of unfocused for the last 30 minutes. a bit much fooling around, breaking off songs and the 'gay', rainbow-colored comic relief scenario (you had to be there) seemed to miss it's mark, although i'm sure the younger members of the crowd found it entertaining.

check out the videos i've posted and leave your comments. i apologize for the sound quality, but there you go for trying to make the iphone do it all...(the video for american idiot is really 'bouncy' due to everyone around me going bananas when the played it. certainly gives you the feeling of being in the crowd, though....)

Grandioses Konzert. Grandiose Band. Grandiose Pyrotechnik. Grandioses Publikum.

Kurz gesagt zum Berliner Green Day Konzert.
Band in super Stimmung, harmonierte mit den phänomenalen Licht-, Video- und Pyroeffekten.

Wer die Möglichkeit hat ein Konzert zu besuchen, wahrnehmen - aber Ohrschutz nicht vergessen!

Another year, another VMAs, and a good riddance to that! To get things out of the way beforehand, let me just say that this: If you walk into this business not thinking that none will protest against you, you need to get the fuck out. There will always be your fans, but there will always be the haters will do anything to get the spotlight off you to enjoy their five minutes and to point out the one who deserves the praise.

Taylor Swift came into our world as a girl who just wanted to sing her songs to the world, her fame only moving forward when she got involved with Joe Jonas. Yes, she can sing, but we only care about her because of her affiliation with Disney, and if it wasn't because of them pushing her to get onboard with Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers, she'd be nowhere right now. She's only popular because of the drama that surrounds her.

She doesn't even fit with the country music genre to be honest. Yes, it may have fiddles and cello, but compare it to other acts, and it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere. She doesn't seem like someone that really knows what they want either, singing about being a princess and finding her romeo in one song, another going on about how she's the tomboy of the school. Plus, she looks like a Barbie doll, where's the sense in that?

Now, Beyonce has been in the limelight for many years, and she seems very happy. She's not being photographed everyday looking a complete waste, her marriage seems to be alright (personally, I salute anyone that can handle the mess that is Jay-Z), and she separated herself from just "being the main singer in Destiny's Child." She rose to fame because of the effort she put in, not because of the 'pretty boy' she dated.

As for Kanye West, well, let's just say that that 'trying to be polite' thing didn't exactly work. I'm pretty much thinking that he thought that the first few minutes were whack and just getting worse and he didn't want to just sit there for another hour and wanted to do something to get away. I don't know, I wouldn't have liked to be there watching Janet Jackson imitating her dead brother either. That, or he thinks the same way as I do, that a 'pretty blonde girl' that doesn't do anything for herself deserves a hard-to-get award like that. And yes, in my eyes, a Grammy award is easier to get than a moonman. Why? Because MTV is a popular vote versus the Grammys who's voters actually know a thing or two about real music.

I think Beyonce just wanted people to not put her down in the media after what Kanye said. She knows that it's a very hard industry, that some people think she's complete rubbish, and that her daddy does everything for her. She did however say that she's been on stage before and already had her moment and wanted Taylor Swift to have that same experience. She also knows that it's a popular vote by the fans and nothing else.

Moving on, I think it was nice to see Madonna open up the ceremony with her speech. I didn't recognize her at first, because to be honest, she's usually in leotards and all that. It was great to see her without the fake British accent and talking realistic about her memories of meeting up with Michael for the first time. She put a lot of blame in the fact that she drifted away from him, swell as many of his other closest friends and entered into a world where he had no one to call a friend. Yes, she has her own troubles and is seen to be too strict and crazy, but I think she deserves her title in the music world.

I still don't believe that it was great for the Jacksons to go up stage and do a tribute to Michael, but they're getting their five minutes of last fame and that's all that really matters to them. It felt more like a spoof of him though, with Janet singing like him and everyone dancing to all his songs. It was good, but I think it needed one of those Oscar type 'in memory' instead.

I officially don't like Russell Brand anymore, he seems to have gotten all his success into his head and used the awards ceremony for putting out his thoughts. I for one did not like his quote about Americans letting people die instead of giving them free healthcare like the NHS in the UK. Even though I agree with it, I didn't like the fact that he put it out to the public, especially to a young audience who really haven't got a clue about politics in general. The majority of young people think Obama is cool because he's black, they know nothing about his political beliefs, just like they don't know that downloading music illegally harms the music industry.

Never seeing really any Green Day performance, except when they did Live 8, I wasn't really impressed. The calling up people to come up stage was pretty ridiculous too, you could no longer see them and all you really heard were all the girls screaming. It was a stupid way to make a boring song more exciting.

I don't like how they put acts on the side now, it's not fair to the people that want to see their favorite bands then not get to because they're just there for filler. I mean, Russell Brand didn't talk this much this year, you could have had him fill the spots! Daniel Merriweather is great and I didn't think he needed to be treated like The Ting Tings were last year. Muse are great, but come on, they didn't deserve to be showcased when they have absolutely no hits here and hardly any radio stations play them. I liked Lady Gaga's performance though, not something I'd pay to see though. Someone pointed out that Beyonce wears too many outfits that are the same sparkle and grey but in different styles and I have to agree with them, she was great though. The rest was pretty boring to be honest, the same annoying stars with the same annoying comments. Some took the time to congratulate Taylor Swift after Kanye West's outburst just before she took to the streets to sing.

Anyway, I could be here all night complaining about all the little things I noticed, how robotic people were, how dresses were totally cheap and tacky, and other things, so I'll leave you with the official winners list.

So we dragonboated all weekend (and did poorly at that) and then jumped in the van and all 5 of us headed to Edmonton for the Green Day concert. We decided to go to West Ed Mall and the waterpark.  Sage and I played a bit but she didn't really like it so thought I'd take advantage and do some shopping while the boys and Duane kept playing.  I found a kids clothing store and bought a beautiful black and white dress for Sage and some black and white shirts for the boys - thinking they could wear nice jeans and hiking boots too.

We had taken the boys on an 8 km hike on Canada Day, in Waterton, to make sure they could handle hiking around for the wedding. They were very successful in their ability to complete the hike so I was getting more and more excited about being helicoptered to spend 2 hours on a mountain top.....

I never made it to a wedding store or any other store in the mall really, before it was time to go.  I did manage to pick up 2 other really cute dresses, but totally different styles, for Sage.....that way no matter what style I decided to go with, hopefully she'd have a dress to somewhat match it.

Back in Lethbridge and Duane had to go to an overnight camping trip for a few days with work (can you see now why we only had 8 days together in July!). They returned early so we quickly went to the jewelry store to get his ring sized and ordered and to AMA to get our wedding license. I was really impressed with the Alberta license because you have to sign and agree to no abuse in the relationship and that you understand that you do not own the other person!  wow...don't remember anything like that on the BC one, but I like it!  Was interested to learn we'd have had different questions asked of us if we were of the Baha'i Faith, too!

Meanwhile, I've told my friend Trish, what is going on, because she eloped in Canmore and I need advice.  I've also emailed my friend Jaime Vedres who is an amazing photographer. Both are sworn to secrecy.  We have asked Duane's 2 best friends from school, and their girlfriends (the 2 couples who started this whole thing, ironically) to be our witnesses, but they are also sworn to secrecy.  Everyone is very excited!!

My wedding dress has come in and it needs much more chest support than I have. Its pretty but its definitely more beachy than mountainy and I don't feel like spending $100 on a bra etc just to guarantee it stays up.  I find another dress on the Sears website that looks kinda more ME, so I order it. I now have 1 wedding dress in my closet, 3 dresses for Sage, and another dress for me on the way....I thought this was supposed to be simple......

I guess when you only have 6 weeks to plan and get married, it doesn't leave you the usual year of worrying about details. I just had to find a ring and buy it, find a salon and make an appointment, etc etc.  But already, things were getting complicated.

Duane went into the jewelry store where he had bought my engagement ring those 3 long years ago. They had trouble finding the UPC # for it - they don't carry it anymore, but they thought they had it based on the UPC # written on my service plan card. They then found the UPC # for the wedding band and ordered it, but this took 2 visits and a few phone calls to the store.  THEN one staff said it would be here in 5-6 weeks and another said it would be here in 1-2 weeks. I said we'd pay anything to get it fast and so they said that we needed it for Aug 4th, hoping that would rush it.

I went in and found a simple matching band for Duane - I hate those decorative ones so found a white gold one for him but didn't know his ring size.  Then I had to go to the courthouse for the umpteenth time to get a copy of my Divorce Certificate from my previous marriage, so we could apply for a marriage license.  Of course I show up at the courthouse on the same day as the first court date of some guys who murdered an innocent guy a few weeks prior, so the media and huge crowds are around.  We don't want anyone to know we are doing this but its hard when I see people I know going in and out of the courthouse.  Thank goodness no one does more than wave and say Hi.

Duane's mom is coming into town for the dragonboat weekend to babysit Sage so now I have to hide all the wedding stuff and try to not think about, or talk about any of it. It also means we have to take 3 days off of wedding planning, which seems like a lot given we are only in town together for a grand total of 8 days in July! Yikes...but we can do this, I believe it...no I don't...yes I do! I'm not freaking out...at all.

I take lunch breaks to go do wedding errands and almost slip up many times with my coworkers.  I saw a beautiful dress on kijiji so went once to try it on - it was beautiful but too fancy for me - a very traditional dress with a long train. It fit perfectly too....ah well.

Once dragonboating is over this weekend, we are off to Edmonton for the Green Day concert - maybe I'll find some kids' clothes etc there?  Fingers crossed....
