  • joelle from the biggest loser season 7 gray team The Biggest Loser Couples Season 7, Episode 3 Video Recap with Pete Thomas The one thing that got most of the rest of the players was the temptation this week, where each person was offered pizza, fried chicken nuggets, tacos and cupcakes to consume. The players at home were given the same challenge and the team that devoured the most calories was offered a trip back home to workout with their partner trained by Bob Harper. Well, Mandi ate a piece of pizza to try to get home and see her kids. All the other teams at the ranch ate nothing. The game switches to the player at home and Sione of the blue team pounded down two pieces of pizza and a cupcake to take the lead. Now Joelle’s partner Carla ate over 2000 calories of junk food and they won the challenge. Bob went to Detroit and trained both of the gray team. While there Carla gave a ton of attitude and challenged Joelle that she just wasn’t doing her part. From my point, she doesn’t seem motivated enough for the show.

Brian Tracy wrote a book called 'Maximum Achievement' and in it he explains the power of saying, "I like myself". This, and many other phrases are, or can be considered positive affirmation statements. I have to agree, there is real power in speaking these words out loud. I have decided to develop, and post my own list of positive affirmation statements:

I like myself.
I respond positively to negative situations, circumstances and information.
I am a successful father.
I am a caring husband.
I weight 170lb.
I run every day.
I play the piano.
I am financially independent.

The list is endless of words you could say to help boost your feelings of self-worth. These words, when spoken aloud will begin to work on/with your subconscious mind to create the ideal you. If you feel a little down about yourself, or would like to feel better about yourself, begin by saying, "I like myself" out loud, at least 10 - 20 times a day.

The point is to come up with a list, and read the list aloud, with conviction. You say these words, to yourself, with belief and purpose. In my example, above these are not all currently true. I'm not financially independent, but I plan to be. It's not quite as effective if I were to say, "I will be financially independent", or worse "I hope to be financially independent". Your PSAs need to be present-tense, positive and they will work. Do not use negative words, like "don't, not, wouldn't, can't", etc.

Try it. Develop your own list, or (at the least) try saying "I like myself" every day. Post your comments below and be sure to tell how it's been working for you in your life.

(I apologize for the implied explitives in the title of this post, they were, however, necessary.)

Admittedly, a better title might have been "Simplify, Simplify, Simplify", but either way - my point is it's time for me to rein in some things in my life and "trim off the fat". I'm all over the place, so much so that a friend on Twitter made a comment about my far-reaching social networking appearance (not influence), and asked how I manage to maintain it all. The truth is, I don't maintain much of anything, anymore, or ever have. I need to close a few accounts, delete a ton of email addresses and K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid).

At one point in time I had the grand idea of creating an email address, for every account, everywhere on the internet (the unnecessary commas have been added for an intentional...momentary, but rather obnoxiously...long...pause). I chose to use the prefix "i83." to begin each address, for example: i83.facebook@gmail.com. This email, of course would be used as my login/contact email address for...you guessed it - Facebook! I also had, among others, i83.itunes, i83.redbox, etc. (You don't even want to know how many there actually are...nearly 2 dozen.)

I admit, I'm a little OCD and I'm having a hard time coming to grips with actually deleting, and discontinuing the use of these email addresses. It feels "clean", and it made sense to me when I did it, albeit I can't remember why, but I'd like to think it was a reasonable idea. It is, however difficult to remember whether or not I'm using a custom address, or stephen@bruington.com, which is my personal, 'everything else' email address.

In order to simplify I feel it's necessary to cut down on the number of accounts I have, but do not (for many reasons) maintain. I have written about, and even tried this before: http://blog.stephenbruington.com/tag/migration, but this time will be different, right? ;)

Here's the thing, I have accounts at places I know nothing about. Yep, little old me has probably already been to your website and established a username/password, etc. I've been on, logged into and/or used these, and many more: blip.fm, last.fm, facebook.com, twitter.com, bebo.com, orkut, com, linkedin.com, friendfeed.com, posterous.com (Haha! Thanks for hosting my blog.), wordpress.com, tumblr.com, livejournal.com, typepad.com, typingweb.com, plaxo.com, rememberthemilk.com, stikkit.com (which, by the way was the BEST ever note, memo, sticky message website...ever), gmail.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com, flickr.com, photoshop.com, gmx.com, meebo.com, AIM, Skype, ICQ, myspace.com, and many, many others. Wow!

Do I really need all that stuff? No, I don't. I know I don't, but I think I have a problem...an addiction. I would like to keep the following:

Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, tumblr, posterous, flickr, Skype, Photoshop.com, and maybe a few others. I could write a book about all these sites and why I've used them, but I don't think anyone would read it. In fact, if you've made it this far you're either my wife (thank you Sweetheart), or crazy!

C.Y.A. - yes, the 'A' stands for what you think it stands for. I don't have a real good reason for using it as part of my title other than the fact that the internet is filled with identity-stealing goons and...quite frankly, I'm exposed. I need to CYA and get rid of a lot of these sites with my information. If you've made it *this far, please do not SPAM my email inbox. I realize I posted my email address to the world, but I don't believe anyone will use it to contact me anyway, so what the heck.

That's it. I need to consolidate and do away with a lot of useless accounts, and unused (by ME) websites. Thanks for reading, I'll let you know, at a later date what I decide to do, and how the cleanup is going, and/or turns out.

After doing some extensive reading as of late, I found some inspiration for this post.  Here I am graduating from my undergraduate career at Arkansas, and what is next?  I would love to enlighten you, as I know you are deeply pondering my next steps.  Nothing.  I plan on changing a grand total of core functions in my life.  HOLD UP! Give me a minute to explain before you circumnavigate you eye sockets with an extensive rolling of the pupil.  The fact of the matter is, I have been learning from the day I tried walking and especially from the day mouths began flowing freely from mouth (and for any one who knows me, the words have not stopped flowing).  I will leave my ultimate final, and I will walk to my car thinking, "well, the past 4 and a half (yes 4.5) years have been fun and educational, but learning does not stop."  I have previously blogged about my experiences with tech-related mediums, and in those experiences, I am trying to figure things out.  i.e. Pick My Brain.

However, the subtle changes that will undoubtedly change my ways will be much more obvious.  Work. Job. Career. Further education. Moving. etc. These changes mold my personality and [maybe] my life style, but personal aims, dedications, and a rooted vision will just be the feet that take me there.  I may wear shoes, and I may need socks.  But I will still have that push and that unyielding force to adopt new strategies for achieving those gold [and sometimes silver] stars that I will put next to my name, like that board in kindergarten.  You know what I am talking about.  Susie always had more, "_____(insert angry/sad/funny interjection/comment."

Where does this mean I have advanced over the past 4.5 years?  I would be happy to tell you over a the next X number of years (X being a variable for the non-math minds).  I suggest coffee, a beer, or delicious food.  P.S. I'm not picky on food...at all.

Inspiration: kenlieposey.blogspot.com

Don't ask how the motivation to post came from there, it did.  After all, did not some famous dude once say something like "inspiration comes from where you least expect it."

          Kavit says...

The other day, as I was driving to St Albans, I was thinking about the differences in mentality between the successful business owner and the unsuccesful business owner. What is it that makes one person successful whereas in that same very industry there are others who are not doing so great.

There are many reasons why one is doing better than the other.

Maybe it's because he has more money to invest in the business.
Maybe because his skills are much better.
Maybe it's because he is more passionate about the idea.
Maybe he is better at traffic generation.
Maybe he knows how to lead a team of people to work towards a common vision.

All the above, and more, are very important attributes.

But I think above all of those "tactics" it comes down to your attitude, your mindset and your beliefs.

Applying Pareto's Law to this, success is always an 80-20 relationship between your mindset and your action plan. 80% of your success comes down to your mindset and 20% is from your strategies – your A-B action plan. This concept has been reiterated to us more times than we can count on two hands, but here again, it is vitally important if your product or service is going to be the latest talking point in circles around the world.

          Let's talk about your needs.

Most people when going for success in their business look to satisfy one need – they want to make money. When you see your need (your ultimate motivation) as wanting to make money, there are really only three paths to making it happen: (1) you get the knowledge (2) you do the labor and (3) you leverage your resources.

However good it may sound to you, having money as your ultimate need and core motivation is not the major driving force for success. Let’s take another need for example. Let’s look at your ultimate need as being your need for food. When you have a need for food, there are two ways to go about satisfying that need. One is to buy food with money, and two, is to grow your own food.

When you decide to buy food with money, you have the three options again – knowledge, labor and leverage. When you decide to grow your own food, you have another three options – (1) learn from successful gardeners, (2) borrow seeds in exchange for cooking and (3) get someone else to grow it for you.

The idea I’m trying to portray here is that no obstacle should really be an obstacle for your business when your need is deep and strong. The solution should be an almost no compromise answer so that your business gets what it needs to succeed.

This is one step towards discovering your core motivation.

Take a moment now to do this exercise:

Let’s just assume reincarnation doesn’t happen. One day you will be dead. And in your place you will have left something. What will that something be? How will you be remembered? What impact will you make? What will you create that continues on after you are gone?

What you want to come up with are reasons why you are really in this arena – reasons why you’re doing it. Here are my five reasons:

          1. I love the game. It’s scary; it’s fun, it’s challenging & stimulating.

          2. I like being able to provide opportunities and give back to the community.

          3. I enjoy being part of a team that is helping thousands and thousands of people all over the world.

          4. I like the concept of being financially free and the opportunities, experiences, and influence that come along with having money.

          5. I’m passionate about changing the world on a global scale by working towards cultivating peace

What will be your core motivation? We get motivated by the venture of making money. A desire for respect motivates us. A thirst for achievement motivates us. The desire to excel both mentally and physically is a drive we want to pursue. Also the goal of being a creator and living a memorable legacy can be a motivation for many of us. Here are some questions to help you come up with your own reasons for playing in this arena.

          • Why do you want to create worldwide buzz with your product and solution?
          • What do you want to get out of it?
          • What do you really crave to learn? Another culture, a foreign language, ski-jumping?
          • Which material objects are you motivated to possess? Are you craving a motorbike, a mansion, a Mercedes Benz?
          • Does the benefit of financial security and prosperity motivate you? Do you crave things in your life that money can buy which makes it more comfortable and enjoyable?
          • How do you want to contribute to the world and how does that motivate you?

Get out and give all you have. Make your goals. Find your motivation and core reasons for being. Then give it your all, plus that extra 10%. In the end, be happy that you made a difference, accomplished something meaningful to you, added value to the world, and had fun. That’s real success in my book.
