It appears that most people are.  What I'm going to attempt to do for you here is not a review or a how to...  That would be pointless.  It's not a released product yet so it could change drastically and suddenly at any point.  What I shall be doing is giving you my take on what Google Wave is in it's most basic form, what it can be used for and the concept of the wave it's self.

NOT A Social Network

Whenever I'm helping someone get to grips with Wave, one of the first questions they ask is how they find other users or friends.  Well, you don't.  I'm not saying you "can't" because there *is* a social aspect to it but it's not a social network, it's a communication tool.  You don't trawl around the email network looking for email addresses to add...  Think of Wave as being email 2.0.  Email with benefits.  If you're a web forum user you can also see it as being like a forum on demand!

Collaboration

Sure you can use Wave to talk to an individual, just like email but it really comes into it's own when you want to collaborate on something as a group.  If a person has an idea they can start a wave about said idea and invite other contacts into the discussion.  Just like CCing someone in an email but again better.  It's better because they can be brought into the conversation at any point and see the whole conversation as it happened.  Using the "Playback" feature, they can also see how the conversation evolved post by post.  Particularly useful if a conversation has multiple threads.

Threads

Real life conversations are not perfectly linear.  They have multiple threads.  Something said earlier in a conversation might be revisited later etc.  By having a threaded view you can respond to anything and interject at any point in the conversation but unlike real life conversations, this need not cause the main thread to go off topic.  By using playback, you can see when and how various subtopics were started.

That's All...  For Now

I'm not going to say any more.  The purpose of this article is to de-confuse.  If you want to learn more, Google it.

HikiCulture has been mentioned on quite a few sites; I've seen quite a few mentions ever since the forum received lots of traffic in late October.

Here are three mentions out of the many I've already seen:

Deshalb...

I've made the user Mikan a HikiCulture moderator as I feel she will do a great job of moderating.

Mikan is a relatively new forum-user, but I can already tell that she'll make a great staff-member.

Congrats Mikan.

I will start off by saying that I am impressed by how active HikiCulture has become, and how much it has grown since creating it in late July of this year (2009). I initially wasn't sure if the forum would ever get more than twenty members (if that). Secondly, I want to say that the amount of new posts being contributed to the site (on most days) is quite impressive, to say the least.

There is one slight "problem" though - there are far too few threads being created.

Some of the HikiCulture boards have less than ten threads in them. Lots of guests who visit this site probably think that the place is somewhat inactive, or doesn't have much to offer when they see that the place has so few threads to discuss things in, thus preventing them from registering.

If every member could create a couple threads a week, or even a new thread a day (some people on the forums I'm on do this), HikiCulture would really have a lot more to offer and would not feel so banal.

Some members have been fine when it comes to creating new threads, but many have created hardly any, or simply no threads at all -- I am not sure if there's a reason for this, but it's a shame.

Don't be shy to create new threads; doing so will help make HikiCulture a better place with much more to offer.

I was going through new avatars to use on the HikiCulture forums on a near-daily basis without finding feeling full contentment with any of the ones I had used; today though, I found the perfect one:

I had thought about Final Fantasy whilst daydreaming today; I think it's because I long to play another game from the series. While thinking about Final Fantasy (which I am extremely fond of), I thought of Moogles (the name of the creature from Final Fantasy that is in my avatar.)

I decided to add my HikiCulture user-name "Chair" to the bottom-right corner of the avatar to make it somewhat more unique. The typeface I used for "Chair" is the same font and shade of blue (partially) that I had used for the HikiCulture logo.

My new avatar finally makes me feel contentment.

I don't use the forum WrongPlanet anymore, but find it to be one of the best Asperger's forums out there at the present. It's not on par with a couple other Asperger's-related boards that I frequent, but the people there are a lot more caring and supportive than they are on some other boards I've been on.

I decided to type this blog-entry up after pondering all of the present Asperger's forums I know of and realizing that WrongPlanet, even though it has its flaws, is still a somewhat decent Asperger's forum to use.

One thing I recommend is that you stay clear of the Adult Autism Issues & Random Discussion parts of the board since they are loaded with extremely trivial threads (I created some myself back when I used to frequent the site - pretty much everyone there does.)

I want to let you people know of a great board that is somewhat similar to HikiCulture; the board is called A Lonely Life.

I don't think that the people at ALonelyLife are quite as reclusive as the people on HikiCulture, but it's still a pretty similar board.
