Hida Takayama is an old castle town, which is located in northern Gifu prefecture, about 150 miles west of Tokyo. The Takayama Festival is known as one of the most beautiful festivals in Japan, and the autumn festival called Hachiman Matsuri takes place on October 9 and 10 every year. The main feature of the Takayama Festival is gorgeous yatai (floats) decorated with detailed carvings, tapestries, and karakuri dolls (marionettes). On the night of October 9th, lit up yatai parade through the town.

Beautiful fall foliage attracts lots of visitors to Nikko around this time of the year. Nikko Toshogu Shrine, which is inscribed as UNESCO's World Heritage, is a main attraction in Nikko area. The annual fall festival of Nikko Toshogu takes place on October 16-17, 2009. The yabusame (horseback archery) performances are held at 1 p.m. on the 16th, and the sennin musha gyoretsu (the procession of a thousand warriors) departs from Nikko Toshogu Shrine at 11 a.m. and leaves from Otabisho near the Shinkyo bridge at 1 p.m. on the 17th.

Voodoo Experience ‘09 annexed New Orleans’ City Park last weekend for three days of music and festival madness, and people partied hard. They rocked out to the interstellar grooves of the Flaming Lips, the ballsy arena rock of Kiss, the brash rhymes of Eminem, among many others.

Kiss, Widespread Panic, Lenny Kravitz, the reunited Jane's Addiction, Wolfmother, Ween and the Flaming Lips are among scores of acts on the festival's three-day bill. Eminem, who was a newly minted superstar when he performed at the 2000 Voodoo, returns in his only full concert for 2009. Producer Stephen Rehage doesn't hesitate to identify the biggest headliner: host city New Orleans.

Zehnder Communications designed the 2009 Voodoo Experience phone application with handy icons for food, first aid, ATMs, bathrooms and even prices of items, right on a phone screen.

During the festival, app users can also be updated in real time about changes in any stage's schedule.
